Annual 5K Run & Walkathon - Heritage Program Fundraiser Held @Vedic Cultural Centre
Come join us for a fun-filled day at the Vedic Cultural Centre (VCC) for our Second Annual 5K Run & Walkathon! Lace up your sneakers and get ready to hit the pavement for a good cause. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a leisurely stroll, this event is perfect for all fitness levels. Come join us in support of the Annual Heritage Program fundraiser and enjoy a day of community, exercise, and fundraising. See you there!
Where Your Donations Go:
✅ Cause #1 – HVAC replacement. Our aging heating and cooling systems are failing and in urgent need of repair. The system is 30 years old and is outdated. The VCC provides programs and services to children, families and seniors. Many visitors to the VCC experience mobility and health challenges.
✅ Cause #2 - Development of forums, educational materials and sharing of cultural and professional resources to enable our people, as well as the general public in areas including but not limited to financial literacy, board governance, public speaking, real estate, musical and dance lessons, and workshop on Indentured labourers.
✅ Cause #3 – Preservation and enhancement of our cultural artifacts and exhibits, some of which are over a hundred years old including; a mock house (called a "logie"), a mock ship (represents the "Hesperus" of 1838), grass cutters and 'cutlass', kitchen utensils and clay pottery, hand mill (for grinding dhal to make 'dhal puri'), a mock fireside or "chulha" used for cooking (equivalent to today's stove), original passports, stamps and written arrival documentation, and more.
Join us at the VCC on Sat May 23rd for its 28th Annual Caribbean Indian Heritage Event where many of the cultural artifacts and exhibits will be on display. Entrance is FREE thanks to donors like you! Free parking!
Whether you choose to join us for the run or donate today, we thank you for being part of the celebration!

Central United Church (CUC) is working to raise awareness and funds for groundbreaking ALS research at Sunnybrook Hospital's Brain Sciences Program, in honour of longtime CUC member and Unionville resident, Lynne Pulenzas. This 5K run/walk event is not only a fundraiser - it is a celebration of Lynne's strength as she has faced this disease, her legacy of kindness, and the love that surrounds her. To learn more about Lynne's story click here. By coming together in an active way, we honour her fight and help move closer to a world without ALS.
To walk or run with us, and help work towards eliminating ALS, click the "Register" button! As you register, you will be prompted to set up your own fundraising page to send to your friends and family. We suggest a fundraising goal of $1000, but any amount is great! You can also make your own donation to Sunnybrook as part of the registration process.
To donate to Sunnybrook without registering to walk or run, click one of the "Donate Now" buttons or click "Donate to Participant" to the left of the page to sponsor a specific walker/runner's fundraising efforts. Charitable tax receipts will be automatically issued by Sunnybrook through Race Roster for donations over $10.
If you need help setting up or sharing your fundraising page, please contact church staff - Christina Ng.
