The Westchester Cycle Club is hosting its Fourth Annual Velo de Femmes on Sunday, June 7, 2026, to build community among women cyclists of all levels — from beginners to experienced riders.

You do not need to be a member to participate — just sign up, show up, and enjoy a great day of riding and connection.

The event begins in Armonk, New York, and is designed to encourage more women to participate in recreational cycling in a welcoming, supportive environment.

"We want women to know that there's a connection out there for those who are interested in riding," said Christine Schopen, past president of the Westchester Cycle Club, whose nearly 800 members are about one-third female.

Why Velo de Femmes?

Velo de Femmes consistently draws more than 120 women of all ages and abilities. When women riders feel comfortable, they are more likely to ride, connect, and build lasting friendships.

Courtney Simonsen, a new WCC member said

"I started cycling a year ago. Velo de Femmes being my first group event with the club. I realized that day after seeing all of the women, of all ages and levels, that I was exactly where I was supposed to be."

Velo de Femmes — which roughly translates to "women's bike ride" — is a great opportunity to:

  • Meet new friends

  • Build cycling confidence

  • Discover scenic local routes

Four No-Drop Ride Options:

Led by WCC's experienced ride leaders, all rides will take place on quiet, scenic roads and will be no-drop, meaning no one will be left behind. Groups may be divided into faster and slower paces to ensure everyone rides comfortably. We will ride RAIN or SHINE.

This is a beautiful and challenging two and half mile swim across the majestic Hudson River from Nyack, NY to the historic village of Sleepy Hollow, NY.

Our goal is to give swimmers the opportunity

to enjoy the panoramic views as they swim across the scenic Hudson River while supporting Feeding Westchester and other local charities.

All swimmers must have proof of open water experience or must have a life guard or swim coach sign off on their ability. This proof can be uploaded at time of registration or sent to the [email protected] by August 26th at the latest. Proof can consist of results from a prior swim event or triathlon. If this is not available a swim coach or lifeguard can sign off on the swimmer's capability to swim across the Hudson River. All swimmers will be required to wear a safety buoy which will be supplied at the event. The swim must completed in three hours.

The Lighthouse Swim is a charity event, and we carefully plan and budget based on participant registrations and commitments made in advance. For this reason, all registration fees and donations are non-refundable. We highly recommend signing up for race insurance.

If you are unable to participate, you may request a deferral prior to the event, subject to approval and applicable deadlines.

In the event the swim is canceled due to weather, safety concerns, or circumstances beyond our control, registration fees and donations will not be refunded. The Lighthouse Swim takes place rain or shine; however, the safety of our swimmers, volunteers, and community is our top priority.
