Join us for the 112th Annual Patriots Day Road Race on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 8:00 AM.

Why Saturday? To celebrate America 250, the entire town is celebrating on Saturday again! It isn’t just the race; two expanded reenactments, the parade, and the festivities are ALL taking place on Saturday, April 18th this year. This schedule allows you to run the race and enjoy the full scope of the historic festivities, parades, and reenactments before and after crossing the finish line.

📢 A Look Ahead to 2027: A Return to Tradition. Enjoy this special Saturday edition while you can, because tradition returns next year! In 2027 the race will return to its historic home on Patriots' Day Monday—honoring the tradition of the very first race run in 1914.

    We’re thrilled to announce that on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, the Belmont AAPI Run 5K & 2K will celebrate its 5th anniversary!

    Runners and walkers of all ages from Belmont and neighboring communities are warmly invited to join this year’s race to celebrate and raise the voices and visibility of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) residents. The event is organized by the Belmont Chinese American Association (BCAA) and supported by generous contributions from local businesses.

    Now in its fifth year, the Belmont AAPI Run has grown into a cherished local tradition—bringing together competitive athletes, first-time runners, families, volunteers, and local business owners for a morning of fitness, friendship, and community spirit. Since its 2022 debut, it has become one of Belmont’s three signature races, alongside the FBE Apple Run and the Becca Pizzi 5K.

    Proceeds from the event support AAPI-focused programs hosted by BCAA and Belmont Celebrates AAPI Heritage (BCAH). This year, funds will also benefit the Belmont Media Center to help broadcast local public school events. Learn more about AAPI community initiatives at BCAA and BCAH.

    Race Routes

    5K Route (USATF Certified, Chip-Timed)

    • Follows the Becca Pizzi 5K route developed by the Belmont Police Department—starting and finishing on the Belmont High School (BHS) track and winding through the Winn Brook neighborhood.

    Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

    2K Route (Chip-Timed)

    • Follows the FBE Apple Run 2K course starting and finishing at the BHS track, passing along Claypit Pond near the high school. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

    Bib & Packet Pickup

    • Pre-race: Saturday, May 2nd, 2–5 PM near the Belmont High School entrance (includes bib, race shirt, and gift bag).

    • Race Day: At Belmont High School Track

    • 5K pickup: 8:00–8:45 AM

    • 2K pickup: 8:00–10:00 AM

    T-Shirts

    The first 400 registered participants will receive a lightweight, quick-dry running shirt featuring a brand new design.

    Registration Fees

    • 5K: $30 through May 3, $40 on race day

    • 2K: $20 through May 3, $30 on race day

    Parking & Facilities

    The BHS Track is located at 291 Concord Avenue, easily accessible by car or public transit.

    No parking is allowed in the BHS lot. Ample parking is available in nearby streets and the Claflin Street parking lot.

    Portable restrooms will be available near the track.

    Medical Support

    On-site medical assistance will be provided by the Belmont Fire Department EMS Bike Unit, with basic first aid available for minor injuries.

    Post-Race Celebrations

    • Enjoy fresh bread and bagels from Iggy’s, water, and bananas—free for all runners and spectators. Every runner under 18 can also claim a Moozy’s ice cream sandwich by showing their race bib.

    • Bay State Physical Therapy will offer free massage and stretching sessions until 11 AM.

    Race Results

    • View real-time or final results at Second Wind Timing, or scan the QR code on your race bib. You’ll also receive your official finish time via text or email.

    About the Run and AEF

    The AEF 5K Run celebrates Arlington’s students, teachers, and staff who work tirelessly to create enriching and innovative educational experiences. All ages are welcome to participate. The proceeds from the run will be used to support innovative and creative new projects, as well as system-wide initiatives, that enhance the educational experience in Arlington’s Public Schools.

    AEF depends entirely on individual donations and business sponsorships. The race plays a significant role in our community awareness and fundraising initiatives. The race course runs east along the Minuteman Bike Path before returning along Arlington’s historic Massachusetts Avenue. Arlington Education Foundation (AEF), is a 501(c)(3).

    Registration

    Registration is open to all ages. Early bird pricing (until Wednesday, 4/1) is $35 per entrant. The race fee will increase to $45 per entrant after that date for all except for the ACE, Gibbs/OMS running group members.

    Arlington Community Education ACE and Gibbs/OMS (elementary & middle school programs) participants are eligible for a discount. This information will be sent to students participating in the running groups.

    Personalized bibs provided for all racers who register on/before April 15th.

    There will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

    Volunteers

    Volunteers are needed to ensure that the AEF 5K is a safe and fun race experience for all participants! Please sign up to assist our Race Leadership Team on race day! If interested in volunteering, please sign up here.

    Race Swag

    • T-Shirts will be provided for all participants 14 years old and younger. Please specify the unisex t-shirt size when registering.

    • Opting out of a t-shirt means your contribution to (AEF) will make more of an impact!

    The Course

    The 5K run will start and end at Hill’s Hill Field, behind the Ed Burns Arena (422 Summer Street, Arlington, MA), with the course route shown below.

    • After starting on the Hill’s Hill field, turn left (East) onto the Minuteman Bikeway.

    • Continue East to Water Street.

    • Turn right on Water Street and then a quick right (West) onto Massachusetts Ave.

    • Bear right (West) from Massachusetts Ave. onto Lowell St.

    • Turn right onto Mill Lane (which becomes Frazer Lane at the Schwamb Mill) to return to the Minuteman Bikeway.

    • Continue East on the Minuteman Bike Path back to Hill’s Hill Field to the race finish.

    • Awards will be given at 9:00 a.m.

    • Chip timing will be coordinated by Second Wind Timing. Results will be posted and emailed to all participants and are viewable at www.secondwindresults.com

    Parking

    Arlington residents leave their cars at home and warm up as they run/walk to Hill’s Hill field. Please leave plenty of time to park on the neighboring streets. Do not block driveways or impede traffic on Overlook.

    Safety

    The race will run unless extreme weather prevents safe conditions. There will be no refunds.
