Travel through the ancient lands of the Kaurna and Peramangk peoples in Kuitpo Forest, near Meadows in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Kuipto was established to ensure a sustainable timber resource for South Australia in 1898, the first of several forest plantations in the area.

The reserve covers an area of 3,600 hectares, including plantation and native bushland. It is managed for sustainable commercial forestry, while also providing for the conservation of native flora and fauna and community use for recreation.

You’ll run through an amazing mix of scenic pine plantations and native bush and enjoy wide forestry roads mixed with some single tracks.

Don’t forget to look up as you traverse through the towering trees, breathe in the scent of the pines and keep a sharp lookout for the pixies dancing under the Amanita muscaria (bright red mushrooms).

Kuitpo Forest is situated in the South Mount Lofty Ranges, 45 minutes’ drive from Adelaide, near the township of Meadows.

Adelaide Trail Runners are very excited to bring you the second Lofty's Revenge on Saturday June 27th, 2026!

Our inaugural event in 2025 was a huge success with 225 athletes taking on some of the best trails of the Adelaide Hills! We really are spoiled for choice! Hopefully you're going to love making your way from the city, or just out of it, to Mt. Lofty Summit. We guarantee, you will never have thought of going this way about it!

The 50km Ultra Marathon event will start at Felixstow Reserve, a short 10-minute drive to the North-East of the CBD. Runners will enjoy a nice smooth, almost flat, start along Linear Park, which is adjacent to the River Torrens. You will also enjoy the new "Aqueduct Trail" in Highbury which is just stunning and includes amazing views of Black Hill. For all the details on the course maps, please click on the link above.

There will be 3 distances to choose from. The 50km Ultra Marathon, a 28km & 10km option, all finishing at the summit of Mt. Lofty. The 28km will start at Foxfield Oval in Athelstone and the 10km will start and finish at Mt Lofty Summit. The 50km has an elevation of 1,800m and is made up of approximately 70% trail and 30% road.

There will also be a 3-person teams relay for the 50km distance only. More details on each section can be found on the event page on the ATR website.

You’ll follow winding single-track, travel through woodland slopes and bushlands, scramble along some boulders, and cruise along the creek lines. Don’t forget to take in the sweeping views of the hillsides.

Then there’s the creek crossings. You’re probably going to get wet feet. And if the race follows a soaking rain, you might even see waterfalls along Magpie Gully.

There’s nature aplenty here. Look up to see koalas, look around to spot a grazing kangaroo and look down and you might spot an echidna digging for ants.

Originally inhabited and cared for by the Kaurna people, it’s not hard to see why Sturt Gorge is a favourite with the current locals.

This race is where your best adventurous self is really going to shine.

Sturt Gorge is an easy 30-minute drive from the city.

Welcome to the traditional lands of the Kaurna people. It's time to head to Cleland.

Cleland National Park conserves an important area of bushland situated in the Adelaide Hills face zone. A fantastic network of trails awaits you, taking you through native wildlife and cultural heritage zones and providing spectacular views of the Adelaide Hills and surrounds.

It's fair to say that it's a bit hilly here - probably why they call it the Adelaide Hills. Don't be put off - you'll be rewarded with native woodlands, forests, perched swamps, creeks, and maybe even a waterfall.

You can be guaranteed to run past many kangaroos - especially early in the morning, and you'll probably spot koalas too.

After your race, we recommend you visit the Cleland Wildlife Park - the young and young at heart will enjoy it equally.

Cleland is less than a 30-minute drive from the city.
