  Please join us for our annual spring race which will take place on Saturday, Apr. 11, 2026. The race, named after Kent State University's unofficial mascot, will be available for anyone to participate. The traditional 5k course is a loop course which begins and ends near the entrance to the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center on the campus of Kent State University. The course will be marked if you are in Kent and would like to run the actual course. The course takes you through the campus via the Esplanade. A few small hills adds to the experience but be on the lookout for the infamous black squirrels!

  On race day, post your photo or video on your social media account and tag us at #KSU2026BlackSquirrel.

  Registration Fees

  Get excited- It is that time of year- and this year it is the 15th anniversary!! Put away those snow boots and get out those running shoes! The 15th Annual Fishcreek Raccoon Run will be held on Sunday, April 26th, 2026, and will consist of a 5K and 1-mile Fun Run centered through the neighborhoods of Fishcreek Elementary School. There will also be a virtual option for those who prefer to run virtually, or those who cannot join us on the 26th- near and far!!

  The Raccoon Run promotes the health and wellness of the district’s students and the community as a whole, while supporting the students of Fishcreek Elementary. While there may be changes to the event everyone knows and loves, the important piece it is LIVE, for the kids, and getting us all back to some normalcy while getting out and exercising!

  This is our 15th annual year holding this community event in person and would love for you to join us! Stay tuned for information regarding games, entertainment, and food!

  Each registrant will receive a T-shirt and sponsor packet! (guaranteed shirt if you sign up by FRIDAY, APRIL 3rd, 2026)

  All 5K finishers (including virtual 5K participants) will receive a finishers medal!

  Strollers are welcome!

  PLEASE READ BELOW FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING PACKET PICKUP AND RACE DAY PROCEDURES FOR YOUR UPCOMING RACE!

  PACKET PICKUP:

  Packet pickup (swag items and bib assignment) will be on Friday, April 24th, 2026, from 5:30-8:00pm at Heritage Barn in Stow, Ohio.

  Packet pickup is for ALL participants (5K and 1 Mile Fun Runners AND Virtual Participants)

  Race day packet pickup will be very limited - please do your best to pick up prior to race day. RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP WILL BE AVAILABLE 6:45-7:30AM.

  RACE DAY REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 7:45AM.

  During packet pickup many sponsors will be there to showcase their companies, products and more! Come join the fun!!

  RAFFLE BASKETS!! We have a variety of raffle items!! Tickets will be available for purchase during Packet Pickup on Friday and from 7am-9am on Race Day morning! Winners will be announced after the race, on Race Day!

  There will be additional Fishcreek Raccoon Run swag items for sale (stress balls, water bottles, chip clips, etc.) during packet pickup!

  Because this is a fundraiser for Fishcreek Elementary, no refunds will be issued for registration cancellations. Registrations received without payment are not valid.

  RACE DAY DETAILS

  The start line of the race is located at 5238 Young Road, Stow, Ohio 44224 (Heritage Barn).

  Parking will be available off the STOW ROAD ENTRANCE ONLY! Take the road past Bow Wow Beach and SOAR Playground and keep going around past the baseball fields to the parking lot. (If using GPS, put in BOW WOW BEACH address- signs and arrows will direct you from there).

  The Young Road entrance will be closed to all traffic all morning long!!

  Do not arrive at Fishcreek Elementary on Race Day!

  1 Mile Fun Run:

  Fun Run starts at 8am!

  5K:

  5K starts at 8:30am for all 5K runners!

  A water stop will be available at Fishcreek Elementary School between miles 1 and 2 for racers. Upon completing your race, finishers can pick up your 5K medal at the finish line!

  Strollers are permitted for both races. No bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc. for either race.

  Run, jog or walk to celebrate mom during this annual 5K from the Summit Metro Parks. The stroller-friendly course for this chip-timed race travels twice around the scenic Munroe Falls Lake. Race proceeds benefit the Summit Metro Parks Foundation.

  Because the course overlays the park entrance/exit road, the park’s entrance gate will close at 7:50 a.m. and will be re-opened by park police after participants clear the second lap.

  A choice of a race t-shirt or native tree sapling is included with each paid registration, including the 14 & under kids’ category, while supplies last. Register early to ensure availability.

  The event is held rain or shine. Refunds are available through May 1, 2026, but not after. The course is not fully ADA-compliant, but wheelchair participants and jogging strollers are welcome. If you plan to use an adaptive device on the course, please contact the race in advance. The course surface is asphalt.

  Packet Pickup

  Pre-race packet pickup is available on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm (1828 Smith Rd., Akron). Race day packet pickup will start at 7 a.m. the morning of the race.

  Registration and Fees

  For ages 14 and under, registration is $10 through race day (the discount for 14 and under registrants is applied at checkout).

  For ages 15 and older, registration is tiered by date:

  • $20/person through January 14

  • $25/person from January 15 through March 14

  • $30/person from March 15 through April 14

  • $35/person from April 15 through race day

  Participants may register on the morning of the race but will only be able to do so online (no cash accepted).

  Rules

  Wagons, bikes, scooters, rollerblades, and motorized vehicles are not permitted on the course. Pet spectators (on leashes, 8-foot max) are welcome, but not allowed on the course. Anyone on the course over the age of 5 years, or participating under their own power must be a registered participant with a race bib. Only registered participants with race bibs are eligible for finisher awards.

  Awards

  The top male and female (1st and 2nd place finishers) for each age group are awarded their name engraved in the Munroe Falls Mother’s Day 5K brick paver walkway.

  The overall top male and female (1st and 2nd place finishers) are awarded their name engraved in the Munroe Falls Mother’s Day 5K brick walkway as well as an engraved top finisher brick paver to take home.
