    7:00 a.m. Sprint & 5K race start

    8:30 a.m. 12 & Under Tri Start

What I love about this race:

We think it's the prettiest sprint run and bike course in Utah! What brings people back year after year are the beautiful orchards we bike through on a relatively flat course; the friendly spectator area, including a kids playground, bounce house, and vendors; an awesome finisher medal; an accurate timing chip system; free photos, an easy and fun swim, not to mention the small-town race feel! The perfect triathlon for first-time triathletes or those seasoned athletes looking for a fun, fast, and beautiful sprint triathlon! Our race is a reverse-order triathlon (run, bike, and then we end with the swim). In 2026 we will again offer a 12 and under kids super-sprint triathlon! We will also be offering a 5K walk/run. Each participant will receive two wristbands for early entry to Payson Pool's open swim at 9:00 a.m.!

    DISTANCE

    5K WALK/RUN ONLY: 5K

REGULAR SPRINT TRI: 5k run (3.1 miles), 18k bike (11 miles), 300 yard swim (lifejackets permitted)

TEAM SPRINT TRIATHLON: 5K run (3.1 miles), 18k bike (11 miles), 300 yard swim (lifejackets permitted) - A team of 2-3 people where each person does one (or two) leg(s). (Please first register one person, then go back and register the others in order to get the group pricing discount.)

12 AND UNDER SUPER-SPRINT TRI: 1.25-mile run, 2-mile bike, 100 yard swim (lifejackets permitted)

    REGULAR SPRINT TRI:

    RUN

Heading east toward Peteetneet Road (600 E), runners will turn south to run up the canyon until they meet the police turnaround at about 1.5 miles. On their way back, runners will turn left one block earlier than the "out" road onto 800 south, and then one last right onto Main Street to come into T1. The 5K ONLY runners will use the same 5K course, at the same time, leaving at 7 a.m. RUN ROUTE ON STRAVA.

    T1

Runners will enter Transition 1 (T1) from the Main Street side, grab their bikes and helmets and exit out the other side of the transition area.

    BIKE*

Racers will leave the transition area on foot, mount their bicycles on the road, and will continue along an 11-mile route. Cycling through blooming cherry orchards and beautiful farms is what makes this relatively flat ride worth a try. Coming up over the freeway overpass and back into downtown Payson, racers will have unobstructed views of the Payson LDS temple, as well as miles and miles of south Utah County. BIKE ROUTE ON STRAVA.

    T2

Dismounting your bike on Main Street, participants will walk their bikes into the transition area to prepare for the last leg of the race, the swim!

    Swim

After exiting T2, racers will make their way barefooted to the south east corner of the pool, coming in the side gate and enter the pool while watching out for other swimmers. Swimmers will “snake” up and back in each lane, staying to the RIGHT side of the lane, and then under the lane line (only on the south side of the pool) to repeat until they exit the pool after swimming in all six lanes, equaling 300 yards. Racer's times will stop when they exit the pool and walk over the timing mat.

    12 and UNDER SUPER-SPRINT TRI:

START TIME, 8:30 A.M. ON OUR COUNT:

RUN: Triathlete boys and girls will make their way around the ball fields for a mile run. Route will be marked by stickers and will be led by a cyclist. RUN ROUTE

BIKE: The 2-mile route is a loop on quiet Payson City streets. Volunteers will help riders take left turns (2), and right turns will be marked. Please help your kids become familiar with the course BEFORE the event. BIKE ROUTE

SWIM: Racers will snake up and down the pool for four lengths (100 yards). Life jackets are permitted.

If a parent or trusted adult would like to race alongside their children, please register for the race (either you race in the sprint triathlon, or you race in the kid's triathlon). No awards will be given to anyone over the age of 12.

    TIMING CHIP SYSTEM AWESOMENESS

RunnerCard will be providing our chip timing, and they do a phenomenal job. Shortly after you finish, you can pick up a print out of your time and ranking.

    FINISH LINE/SPECTATOR AREA

While you’re exhausting yourself out on the course, your family and friends can enjoy a fun spectator area filled with vendors, kid’s activities, and music. When you cross that finish line, we'll drape you in your finisher medal! You did it!

    EARLY ACCESS TO OPEN SWIM!

To make our event even more family-friendly, we offer two (2) free wristbands to Payson Pool's open swim with early entry at 9:00 a.m. for every sprint registrant (kid's race entrants get one (1) wristband)! Triathletes and their families will be able to enjoy the lazy river, the large and small slides, and the diving board as soon as all racers have completed the triathlon. Open swim usually opens at 11:00 a.m., but for you - you can enter shortly after you race! If you need more than two wristbands, you can purchase more during registration for only $3 each (normal entry is $5).

    AWARDS

All participants will be given a swag bag including an awesome, super-soft t-shirt, race bib, finisher medal, 1-2 wristbands (sprint-2, kids-1) for early entry to Payson Pool's open swim, and other sponsor items.

    Reverse-order Sprint Triathlon

What I love about this race:

Who can say they finished a triathlon with a ride down a 300-foot long waterslide?! Those who sign up for this race can! We love this reverse-order triathlon, a perfect race for first-time triathletes and kids! All racers begin at the same time with a challenging 5k run 100% on asphalt, followed by a 8-mile bike ride, a 300-yard swim (which anyone is welcome to use a lifejacket!), and a run up the ramp to grab a mat and slide down "Avalanche" to the finish line. Not only do you get to participate in a triathlon at a super fun venue, free photos, an awesome finisher medal, and other swag, but participants will also receive two free passes (a $43.98 value) to Splash Summit Water Park to use in 2026 with each individual registration! (passes are emailed out every two weeks while registration is open). We also offer a 12 and under kids super-sprint triathlon that is half as long! We will also be offering a 5K walk/run.

    Sponsors:

    Day's Market - Provo

    Heat Hydration

    Utah Singles Mingle Events

If you'd like to help sponsor our event or be a vendor, please contact Race Director, Jackie Karlberg, at karlbergracing@gmail.com

    Check in:

Friday 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., outside the west side of the park.

    Saturday 5:30 - 6:30 a.m.

    DISTANCE

    5K run (3.1 miles), 8-mile bike ride, 300-yard swim, 300-foot waterslide finish

KID'S TRI DISTANCE: 1.5 mile run, 4-mile bike, 150-yard swim, 300-foot waterslide finish

    RACE START

All racers will begin at the starting line for the run, with the gun starting at 7:00 a.m. After running for 3.1 miles, racers will then transition within the park and exit on their bikes. Following a two-loop, 8-mile bike ride, racers will come back into the transition area, leave their bikes, run up the sidewalk to the wave pool, and jump into the pool for 300 yards to swim, and then run up the ramp to finish on "Avalanche", a 300-foot waterslide to the finish line.

    KID'S TRIATHLON

New to the race this year - our half-sprint-distance triathlon is for those 7-12 years old who would like to also run in the race! Instead of two laps on the run and two laps on the bike, the kid's triathlon is one lap of each, and half the distance in the pool! The kid's tri will start after the sprint tri runners finish their first loop so the kids aren't running and biking alone. If parents want to race alongside their kids, they must purchase a kid's triathlon registration as well, and won't be in the running for awards.

    TRIATHLON AWARDS

All triathlon participants will be given an awesome, super-soft t-shirt, race bib, sweet finisher medal, two free tickets to Splash Summit 2026 season, and sponsor swag.

    8:00 a.m. 5K walk/run only start

The ONLY open-water sprint triathlon in Utah County is HERE! New in 2026, the Art City Tri will blow your socks off! We start off with a chilly swim of about 450 yards around three buoys in Wayne Bartholomew Family Park Reservoir, where our transition area is. Next, is a six-mile challenging climb up the left fork of Hobble Creek Canyon, but don't forget the six-mile descent too! You'll be flying past the beautiful canyon views! Stash your bike and dash in the river bottoms on a relatively flat 5k run to finish off the trifecta. You'll love our beautiful course, awesome finisher medal, super-soft t-shirt, accurate chip timing, free photos, and not to mention the absolute charm of Art City--Springville!

    SPONSORS:

If you'd like to help sponsor our event or be a vendor, please contact Race Director, Jackie Karlberg, at karlbergracing@gmail.com

    Check in & body marking:

    Packet Pickup TBD

Last-minute packet pickup: September 5, 5:00-6:30 a.m. Location: Bartholomew Park - at the venue

    5K only last-minute packet pickup: September 5, 7:15-7:45 a.m.

    DISTANCE

    5K WALK/RUN ONLY: 5K

REGULAR SPRINT TRI: ~450 yard swim (wetsuits encouraged, lifejackets permitted), 20k bike (12.4 miles), 5k run (3.1 miles)

TEAM SPRINT TRIATHLON: A team of 2-3 people where each person does one (or two) of the above leg(s). (Please first register one person, then go back and register the others in order to get the group pricing discount.)

    THE RACE!:

    SWIM

Starting on the beach by stepping over the timing mat, you will swim about 450 yards counter-clockwise around three buoys in a triangular pattern. Because the usual temperature in late summer of Bartholomew pond is around 60 degrees, wetsuits are encouraged, but not required. Lifeguards on kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes will help keep our swimmers safe. Lifejackets are allowed as well.

    T1

Swimmers will exit the water where they started and enter the transition area to dry off, grab their bike, helmet (REQUIRED), and shoes and head off up the canyon!

    BIKE

The bike exits the park to the east and turns north (left) up the hill. Springville Police will help cyclists turn east (right) up Canyon Rd where cyclists will do a simple out-and-back course up the LEFT fork of Hobble Creek Canyon. No aid stations will be on the bike course, but water for your water bottles will be available in transition. Cyclists will travel slowly up the 6.2 mile course, and then fly down the canyon on the way back! But slow down as you come out of the canyon and police will help you turn left toward Bartholomew Park to finish and rack your bike in T2.

    T2

Rack your bike, strap on your running shoes and head south out of the park.

    RUN

You'll make one big rectangle, running in the river bottoms with aid stations at every mile. After running through beautiful Mapleton and Springville neighborhoods, you'll head toward Bartholomew park, run around the pond on the dirt road to the finish line! You'll have done it! We'll drape a finisher's medal around your neck and you can celebrate your success with family, friends, and lots of good post-race snacks! If you're ONLY doing the 5K walk/run, we'll start you at 8:00 a.m., and you'll get everything that the triathletes do!

    TIMING CHIP SYSTEM AWESOMENESS

RunnerCard will be providing our chip timing, and they do a phenomenal job. Timing chips are placed on your ankle for the duration of the triathlon. When you finish we'll grab your chip off your ankle--make sure we do so you don't get fined for losing it! Shortly after you finish, you can pick up a print out of your time and ranking. You'll also receive a text with your time right after you cross the finish line! Talk about efficient!

    AWARDS

All participants will be given a swag bag including an awesome, super-soft t-shirt, race bib, finisher medal, and other sponsor items.
