A little about ALS Ride for Life:

ALS Rid for Life was founded in 1997 by Christopher Pendergast (pALS). We are called "ALS Ride for Life" because our annual event held each May during ALS Awareness Month, take pALS in their power wheelchairs across Long Island to visit different schools. We raise funds for a cure, to help pALS, and to create awareness of this fatal disease.

The 4th annual student-led "Using Our Voices" Mental Health Run Series is an event grounded in the belief that students should be part of the change process, with genuine inclusivity achieved through active student engagement. It has now grown to include four districts: Patchogue-Medford, North Babylon, Connetquot, and New Hyde Park.

The funds support students across Long Island by providing counseling opportunities and giving them the platform to display leadership, collaborate with peers from other districts, and contribute to an important cause.

The event is designed and executed entirely by students, who are involved in every aspect, from planning to race day. The goal is to share crucial messages about reducing stress and anxiety, building relationships, and supporting mental and physical health through movement. This initiative also empowers students to work toward the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness by fostering civic engagement and community-mindedness.

By supporting this series, you help students across the island unite for a cause that matters—promoting mental health and wellness. All proceeds benefit mental health organizations that work directly with our youth, amplifying the positive impact of this event.

When kids are empowered, magical things happen!

The St James 5 mile challenge is a doozie! The new course starts with an uphill climb leveling off at the half mile mark. From here you have 3 miles of rolling hills through the scenic village of Head of the Harbor before you face the iconic Cordwood Path, which is 1/2 mile incline that would be classified as steep. At the top of the hill you are rewarded with a flat and fast finish.

Whether it is a challenging run or a fun walk (shorter route!), every step brings us closer to families in Suffolk County! Support Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro (RMHC NYM)! By registering today, you will be supporting RMHC NYM’s Capital Campaign to build a new $34M Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s. This new House will keep families seeking medical treatment for their sick children near the care they need and the families they love.

90% of top children’s hospitals around the world are home to at least one RMHC core program. Each Ronald McDonald House is built and sustained with grassroots community support, which is why we are "the house that love built." This new House will be the only one in all of Suffolk County and it is much needed. Whether you are joining us for the race up the beloved Cordwood Path or walking with your family and friends, we thank you for your support!
