For those interested in seeing if they are as "Fit as a Firefighter"; To qualify as a wild-land firefighter, you must complete 3 miles in 45 minutes or less while carrying 45lbs (weighted vest or backpack both allowed). This event is free to first responders, but open to the public for $35 entry fee. If you are a first responder, email 1199callingmayday@gmail.com OR use the "Question?" button in the contact section to get a coupon code. Be sure to provide your name, fire agency, and best method for contact.

People looking to complete a "pack test" practice are responsible for obtaining their pack or vest for the event. Packs and weighted vests can be weight checked during check in the day of the race, if needed for bragging rights. Participants will be started in waves every 30minutes to ensure that traffic jams don't take place and interfere with participant times. If you expect to be one of the faster participants, it is recommended that you be in one of the first heats of the day, 8am-9:30am. If you plan to be slower, or just want to support the cause and have a nice walk around the lake, please plan to come after 10am.

WARNING: Walking/Jogging/Running with a pack or weighted vest adds a significant amount of impact to bones and joints. If completing this event with a pack or weighted vest, it is important that you have trained with weight to avoid possible injuries. Individuals are responsible for their own wellbeing/safety. The four-mile run benefits the BRRC volunteer program. Please bring your gently used shoes and clothing for donation to high school athletes in the area. Fish Lake Trail Head: The trailhead is near Government Way and Sunset Hwy. Take I-90 to Exit 279 for US-195 S toward Colfax/Pullman. Continue on 195 for 0.3 miles, then turn right onto W. 16th Avenue, which turns into S. Lindeke St. Continue on Lindeke until you see the parking lot on the right, about another 0.5 miles. Trailhead is near Government Way and Sunset Hwy. Parking is limited, so please car-pool.

From the Spokane trailhead, the route follows a mild uphill grade. The bridge crosses over the I-90 Freeway. On your left, trees separate you from US 195 for a couple miles and then from Cheney Spokane Road, which loosely parallels the trail. Half-mile markers guide you through the dry uplands of Eastern Washington. The trail follows a piece of corridor of the Oregon–Washington Railroad & Navigation Company (a division of the Union Pacific Railroad) through the Latah Valley, formerly Hangman Valley. At Marshall Canyon, take in railroad history as you travel beside active rail lines through the area known by rail fans as "The Tunnel."

CHECK IN BEGINS AT 9:00 AM

Empowering Communities and Fortifying Families to End Veteran Suicide and Strengthen our Heroes to Lead their Communities.

HONOR HEROES - FORTIFY FAMILIES - CELEBRATE FREEDOM

Walk in support of veterans to choose LIFE. The enemy did not have victory in war, and will not win in the day to day battle for our veteran’s lives. Together we can end veteran suicide and fortify families after service. Live life abundantly with a community that hears, sees and recognizes the sacrifices of our HEROES. Family and supporters of our veterans are encouraged to join. Let’s gather in a big way to show the love and support of our veterans and the USA.

The circle of return from military service to civilian life is a personal and community process. Join a community wide celebration and resources fair as we help veterans and families make the journey back home after service.

    Schedule:

9 AM Registration Opens and Community Resource Fair

    10 AM Opening Ceremonies

11:00 AM Walk Commences on paths through Riverfront Park.

Those walking with kids are welcome to bring scooters, wagons, bikes or strollers to make your time easier with little ones.

12 PM Victory Celebration and Closing Ceremony

    1 PM Resource Fair Closes

Heroes Walk brings awareness, solutions, and builds a connected community to end veteran suicide and homelessness by providing resources for wrap around care for the whole veteran and their family or support system. The content and event day will be mindful of the multigenerational crowd.
