    Course

Start Derby Day with a few furlongs of your own! Our annual race has a new location and a new format this year! Join us at the Fairgrounds in Corydon for a morning of races on and off the horse track. Options include elite mile races (with prize money!), a community mile race, youth races, and a community 5k. We're excited about the 5k course, which is a loop from the Fairgrounds, taking in Indian Creek Trail and historic downtown Corydon. It will include one big hill, a bit of gravel, a beautiful creekside trail, and some road running past the first state capitol back to the finish.

Awards – Top three in the men's and women's elite mile races will receive $100/$50/$25. Age group winners in other races receive an engraved "julep" glass and a Derby Day rose.

Fees – Varies by race, with discounts for multiple events. T-shirt optional if registered by April 12th. Children 10 and under may participate in the 5k at no charge if accompanied by a responsible, paying participant. Online registration closes at 11:59pm on Friday, May 1st. Race day registration is available for an extra $5 per race.

Big news this year: Light The Night 5K is now a THREE-race series!

CASA of the Heartland will host race two the Light the Night 5K: Superhero Walk/Run on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Buttermilk Falls in Brandenburg. Our goal is to raise awareness for the most vulnerable children in our community—and use this night to pay tribute to our local heroes who protect and serve. This event is a celebration of those hometown heroes, and a chance for all of us to show up for kids who need someone in their corner.

And you still have one other chance to join us in the series

    Grayson County — August 21, 2026

Working together across all three events, we’re aiming to provide every child victim in Hardin, Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, Hart and Meade counties with a CASA volunteer advocate—and hope for a better future.

The most unique race in Southern Indiana! As underground temperatures year-round are 54 degrees, this will undoubtedly be the coolest July race around.

The course will start Marengo Boys and Girls Club proceeding down SR 64 passing Marengo Cave. It then heads directly to the underground tour at mile 1 doubling back to finish just outside at the festival. Features include the underground, rolling hills, and scenic small town Indiana charm. By far the coolest both in temperature and in novelty.

The warehouse features several back and forth hairpin turns eventually leading down a corridor of offroad-like but smooth terrain. The entry point is shortly after the 1 mile interval where the indoor portion is right at 2 miles in total. Inside you will find good lighting, good temperature, and fast and flat terrain. A destination race that will offer major relief from the hot summer and a scene like none other.
