  Join us on Saturday, April 11, 2026, for the 7th Annual Farrah Turner Foundation 5K, a heartfelt event honoring the life and legacy of Investigator Farrah Turner. Farrah’s courage and devotion to protecting her community left an indelible mark on Florence, South Carolina, and beyond. This event is a chance to unite in remembrance, celebrate her legacy, and support the mission she inspired: to protect and serve children who are victims of sexual assault.

  The Story Behind the Race

  On October 3, 2018, our small community was shaken when Investigator Farrah Turner and six other officers were ambushed in Florence, SC. Farrah’s bravery and tenacity were evident as she fought for her life for 19 days before passing away on October 22, 2018. To honor her memory, the Farrah Turner Foundation was established to carry forward her passion for helping children in need.

  Every step you take in this race supports the foundation’s mission to create a brighter future for children who have faced unimaginable hardships.

  Why Participate?

  This is more than a race; it’s a movement. Together, we can honor Farrah’s incredible sacrifice and support a cause that uplifts the most vulnerable in our community. Your participation directly contributes to the Farrah Turner Foundation’s mission of helping children who are survivors of sexual assault.

  The City of Florence Employee Wellness Program and Florence Track Club have partnered to bring you the 11th Annual Flo-Town 5K Run/Walk. The certified course will begin at the City's Waste Water Management Facility quickly accessing the Florence Trail System's Freedom Florence Connections. These trails, located in East Florence, make up approximately 8 miles of the City's Trail system. The course is comprised of natural beauty and history adjacent to the tranquil Jeffries Creek and the Florence Stockade. The Stockade and neighboring National Cemetery developed during the Civil War, and veterans from all wars since that time have been, and are still being, interred here.

  Runners and walkers will follow a natural path that winds through the woods adjacent to Jeffries Creek, across boardwalks, around the Freedom Florence pond, and return to trails near the old site of the Florence Stockade. Participants will cross a boardwalk bridge that passes over the southern wall of the stockade. The trail enters an area that was once a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp for Union soldiers during the American Civil War. The trail connects to an open broom straw field that served as an area for bordering guard posts and rifle pits during the war. Participants will follow the trail around the outer edge of this field and finish at the adjacent Waste Water Management Facility. At this newly completed LEED® Certified Administration & Laboratory Building, participants will have access to showers and restrooms. The Flo-Town 5K Event offers runners and walkers a trek through history and the enjoyment of the landscape inherent to the Pee Dee along the wetlands of Jeffries Creek -

  definitely, a 5K event you don't want to miss!

  Overview

  CAPES for Kids is an annual 5K|10K & Kids Fun Run, held in honor of a 3-year old Carver Elementary School student, who lost her life due to physical abuse and neglect in 2011. Formerly known as the Carver C.A.P. Run, this event strives to honor her life, and the lives of children like her, while also raising awareness and support for victims of child abuse in our local community. All proceeds support quality services at the CARE House of the Pee Dee for children who have been abused and their families.

  The 5K & 10K courses begin at Briggs Elementary School at 8:00 AM. Timing provided by Simply Timing. All participants are encouraged to arrive to the race early to allow time for parking. If you plan to register and/or need to pick up your race packet on race day, please plan to arrive by 7:00 AM.

  The Kids Fun Run will begin at 9:30 AM. Participants will have the option to complete a short loop or a 1-mile loop. These events will not be timed.

  Come dressed as your favorite superhero and enter our Costume Contest! Prizes will be awarded in individual and family/group categories. Stay tuned for more details!

  The Purple Crusaders are hosting the 5th Annual Longest Day Walk fundraiser and are excited to offer the END ALZHEIMER’S 5K Pee Dee Grand Prix event on Saturday, June 21st at Arrowhead Park in Cheraw.
