    Teams relay Our team relay has been pretty popular here with Conquer the Wall! When registering, your captain will pay for your team. Be sure to include your team name. Each individual from the team will be awarded a belt buckle for their distance and the team with most mileage as well. Each member will swap their ankle bracelet timing tag to their teammate after the desired laps they complete. We will be working to get cool, unique bibs for our teams.The 35hr participants can start either Friday night at 7pm or Saturday morning at 7am. Your choice. FOOD!! We have plenty of food and hydration! Ask any of our participants...they love the food and support from the community! We ask each participant to bring something unique from their country or state. Mile 50 (change direction) When participants for the 47hr and 35hr and relay teams reach 50 miles crossing the timing mat, they can switch the opposite direction of the course. Definitely wear the ankle bracelet over your pants for optimal timing. GPS data might have shot you around the wall a longer way than a 180-degree turn. The GPS can add a few hundredths here and there or run you outside of a road and after 60 laps it may show a 2-mile difference. Karaoke! Ohh yes! We will have Karaoke and so much fun!!

    No alcohol on campus We all love to celebrate our goals and time with each other with a drink. Unfortunately, no alcohol on the college campus. Rucking Definitely challenge yourself by bringing your own rucksack for this year's 47 and 35hr race.The weight of your ruck should be 25 lbs. We will weigh the sacks before the race starts, every 6hrs, and after the race. The person with the most miles for a male and a female will receive a special award.Participants will wear an ankle bracelet to keep track of their miles. We will limit it to 30 people only. We will still offer camping outside the facility and also along the course at the college and behind the flood wall path. We may have some spots available out in the hallway of the tech building. We do not want your ankle bracelets to track extra laps so please start where the split is between the course path and the path to the Armory building. We will have members of the community helping out by counting laps manually. We will also have a LCD tv screen inside where participants can see live results of their laps.• How does timing work for teams?It works the same for individuals. When the current runner is done with their laps, they will have to exchange their ankle to the bracelet to their teammate. This will help count all the laps altogether toward desired miles. Teams can walk together at the end when reaching your desired mileage.• What's the last call on laps?The clock will keep going for the 35hr and 47hr. Your time and lap will be tracked when crossing the timing mat for the final time. We know we will have participants still out there getting their last loop.•Are their porta potties available?Yes,

You run by small subdivisions and apartments. Please be courteous to motorists and the people who live in the neighborhoods.     The 5th Edition of Coalfields Backyard Ultra is West Virginia's only backyard ultra. The race will take place on Memorial Day weekend, starting Friday, May 28 at 7pm. The Coalfields Backyard Ultra is a Lazarus Lake-sanctioned event through the Backyard Ultra.Date: May 28(Memorial Day Weekend)Time: 7:00pm startLocation: Southern West Virginia Community and Technical CollegeFormat: Last Runner StandingDescription: Participants will run every hour on our 4.1667 mile, down and back loop. Be prepared. Most Backyard Ultras can take place for 3 days or more.     Course info

    The course has been measured to be 4.1667 (2.08 miles down and 2.08 miles back). The course takes place at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (1601 Co Hwy 52/27, Williamson, WV 25661). Participants make their way out of the parking lot onto to asphalt course along the West Williamson Flood wall river path. At the end of the path, they will pass Williamson PK-8 school (gravel road) and run through a neighborhood division, pass a recreation area/community center to the turnaround point at 2.08 miles. The course is very flat and challenging being on asphalt. The course will be well-marked with cones, directional arrows, and any type of markers. We will only have one aid station at the start/finish line. No artificial aid is allowed on the course such as your team coming to meet you on the course. Each participant will come back to the start/finish line. We will have aid such as water, and hydration, food, and porta potties. Participants are allowed to have their own aid and supplies for the event to keep them going.Participants can set up camp at the start/finish line for them to rest within how many minutes they arrive from their loop. There is one section of the course where the path can be very saturated. If it comes to that, we will redirect the course to the other side of the guardrail. Just follow the same flow as the course goes. Again, only if rains a lot during the weekend.

    Backyard Ultra Rules

    Coalfields Backyard Rules

    Race begins every hour. The goal is not about who is the fastest, but how long can you push yourself during the Memorial Day Weekend. The yards will accumulate each hour with your mileage being added.At each hour, we will have a warning system before each lap begins.We will ring a bell:-3 min before-2 min before-1 min before we start the loop.30 seconds will be announced before the start• We will have a 10-second countdown before the start• START (Bell will be rung)- You have one hour to finish the loop. If you make it in time to the start/finish line, the participants can rest in between before the next loop begins at the top of the hour. Participants can go rest at their station, eat, use the restroom, etc before we begin again.- We will put porta potties at both ends of the course and also have the Tech building open for restrooms and food. - If you do not make it back to the top of the hour, then you are considered a "DNF." Please do let our race organizers know if you are dropping out of the race. If there are 2 people left on the course and the other one DNFs, the lone participant must finish the loop to be considered the winner and Last Runner Standing.- Those who are DNF will receive a unique item.

    Food and camping

    We still would like participants to be prepared to bring their own snacks, other foods, and other types of hydration.We will have Food offered from local restaurants and from locals in the community. We will have water, gatorade and forms of hydration on site, just in case. Participants and crew can set up the day before.

    This sprint distance triathlon will have you swimming at our local YMCA pool, followed by a scenic bike ride through Historical Downtown Pikeville, and finish off by running through the Epic Blue Chip Trail!

    This year we are adding team relays and aquathlon divisions (swim/run).

    We encourage both beginners and seasoned triathletes to give this a try!

    Event Cancellation / Modification Policy - If Natural Disaster or Community Disaster occurs, our action steps are as follows:

    1. City of Pikeville in concert with local officials will make decisions based on safety first.

    2. Courses and/or race segments will be altered as agreed to between City of Pikeville and local officials

    3. Financial: It is not financially feasible for City of Pikeville to accept the risk of a disaster for everyone. Each registered participant needs to accept the risk of his or her entry fee. There will be NO REFUNDS or free entries to future races. The money you paid is spent developing the subject event.

    4. City of Pikeville does not save any money if one of our events has to be canceled for reasons beyond our control. All supplies and services needed for the events are purchased and/or arranged in advance. All event supplies and services associated with that event must be paid for, regardless of the outcome.
