    The 6K running race is divided into three parts:

    First: The timing starts with waves of one or two runners leaving the start line every minute and running an approximately 1-mile loop. As you approach the shooting range at the end of the first running loop, you will run into the range, catching your breath, lie down in the prone position and pick up an easy to use .22 caliber target rifle. You shoot 5 shots at 4.5-inch metal knock down targets 33 meters away. For each missed target you are required to run a 70-meter penalty loop after the shooting stop. If course conditions do not permit a penalty loop, 25 seconds will be added to the runners overall time for each target missed.

    Second: After this first shooting stop, you run out of the range and run the same 1-mile loop again. The second time at the range you will shoot 5 shots at the same type target from the standing position and run the 70-meter penalty loop for each missed target. If course conditions do not permit a penalty loop, 25 seconds will be added to the runners overall time for each target missed.

    Third: Once you’ve completed the standing position, you run out of the range and run the 1-mile loop a final time ending at the finish line

    The Pennsylvania Biathlon Club will provide .22 caliber rifles and ammunition for competitors. Competitors are allowed to use their own .22 caliber rifles, standard velocity ammunition, and a 5 round magazine. However there are strictly enforced restrictions for personal rifles - no semi-automatic rifles, must use standard velocity lead ammunition, and open sights or peep sights only.

    The field size will be limited to the first 100 registrants. Awards for overall winners and age group winners will be given upon completion of the tabulation of race results.

    This is a foot race over rugged terrain- No baby strollers, bikes, etc. Due to insurance restrictions, there are no dogs or other animals of any kind allowed on Camp Freedom property.

    All first time participants are required to attend a pre-race biathlon Familiarization and Safety Clinic. Participants must check-in by 8:30 am on the day of the race.

    7:00-8:30am Race check-in and bib pick up.

    8:30-9:30am Familiarization Safety Clinic (mandatory for first-time participants)

    Zero for personal rifles, practice range time

    10:00am Race begins

    What is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?

    The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.

    Honor all of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and support our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty! For more information on the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation please visit www.t2t.org.

    How far is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?

    This is a 5K (3.1 miles). You are welcome to walk or run this event.

    Can I register the day of the run?

    Yes, registration will open at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the race.

    When does online registration close?

    Online registration will close August 13, 2026.

    Is this a timed event?

    Yes.

    Where can I pick up my packet?

    Packets (shirts & bibs) can be picked up when designated at the Fawn Lake Forest Association Clubhouse, 112 Bay Center Circle, Hawley, PA 18428.

    Is there parking available?

    Yes. Arrive early to allow time for parking and walking from your car to the event.

    Do I have to wear my bib number?

    Yes, please display your bib on the front of your outermost garment. Those who run without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish.

    I am a fast runner. Can I get a front line position?

    Runners predicting a pace faster than 6 minute/mile will be seeded in the front corral (arrive early).

    Will water be available?

    Yes, a water station will be available along the route and there will be water available at the finish.

    What can you bring to the event? Can I run with a stroller, backpack, wheelchair, roller blades, dogs, bicycle, etc?

    Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. Firefighter turnout gear and military backpacks are also permitted. Bicycles, roller blades and pets are not permitted on the course. Please leave all personal items and valuables in your vehicle. All items should be stored securely in your vehicle at the owner's risk. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation will not be responsible for the loss of any items.

    Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

    Yes, they can. They must present a copy of your registration receipt. And don't forget to thank them!

    What is the timeline of the event?

    Registration and packet pickup begin at 8:00 a.m. The opening ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. with the 5K beginning immediately after (approximately 9:30 a.m.). After all participants have cleared the course, there will be a Kids Fun Run and then awards and closing ceremony. There will be a free barbecue following the event, so plan to stick around!

    Are age group awards given?

    Yes, to fastest overall male/female finishers, as well as the top male and female finishers in each age category (from under 20 to over 60), fastest male/female first responders to finish in gear, youngest male/female and the fastest male/female walkers.

    Can I still donate to a team and/or individual after the start of the race?

    Yes, donations will be accepted for 6 weeks after the event.

    Your registration fee does not count toward the fundraising goal. Registration fees help offset some of the expenses associated with making the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk one of the country’s greatest annual events, however your fundraising efforts enable us to continue to make a difference in the lives of so many in need.
