A new running off-road race on the Adirondack Rail Trail. Day before Mother's Day, Saturday May 9, 2026 starting at 1130a. Out and Back event starting and, finishing at Bike Lake Placid (455 Old Military Rd). Fun at the finish will allow everyone to enjoy a post-race celebration including food, drink, music and awards. Awards provide to the top 3 in the following categories:

Youth (up to age 20) U10 for MayDay 5K

Open (21-45) Masters (46 up)

The non binary category will be ageless

The race will feature a cup-less aid station/finish line supplying water and runners are encourage to bring their own vessel for water supply. This will help to reduce trash/create a more sustainable event. One on-course aid station will be located at the turn around just in the middle of the Ray Brook straightaway. Parking will be provided at the LP Firehous lot near to the start.

A stroller and pet-friendly race will begin at Bike Lake Placid just after the start of the 10K event. This event will be an out/back consisting of approximately 5 kilometers and limited in number of entrants to reduce trail congestion. To allow for other Rail Trail users, wave starts may be utilized depending on the number of runners in all fields. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Adirondack Rail Trail Association(ARTA) and to the Tri Lakes Humane Society. Bring your pooch/kitty and a non-retractable leash and have fun ! Remember also- no kids under 13 are allowed to run with a dog. Leash or not.

The entry fee includes racing, awards, pre and post race nourishment/festivities, deals at local businesses and a unique athlete gift. Bib pickup starts at 10a on race day at the start. Parking is available at the Lake Placid Firehouse parking lot with ADA parking at Bike Lake Placid.

    The Half Marathon is a single loop out and back while the Marathon is a double out and back. Both races begin/end on Main St. in the charming Village of Lake Placid at the Olympic Speedskating Oval.

    The Marathon/Half course is a combination of flat, rolling and some hills and runners enjoy mountain views, open areas, shaded areas, a class III trout stream, and beautiful Mirror Lake along the way.

    Well-stocked aid stations are available. The event offers a generous six (6) hour course limit for each race.

    Athlete food at the Race Finish along with a quality finisher medal and a 2026 race T-shirt are among the benefits of the race. Please note: We reserve the right to change the racer gift and will inform you of any changes/options well ahead of race day.

    The Lake Placid Marathon & Half was ranked the #2 “Best Destination” Race in the USA by a Runner’s World Magazine reader survey (source; Jan. 2010 issue).

    We are walker-friendly and a great venue for a team or group destination event.

    Age restrictions: The marathon is limited to those 16 yrs and older on race day but must have a parent's signature IN PERSON at registration in order for a child to compete that is under 18 years old.

    The entry fees include a charity component that allows us to make a donation to the Lake Placid Junior Class and an animal charity to be determined. Also global charities like the ACLU, Doctors Without Borders among others. For a limited time the North Elba Christmas Fund will be a check-off charity.

    • This event is one of the Lake Placid region's only not-for-profit running/walking events. The event aims to raise funds to support a community-wide wellness initiative and support local youth programming.

    • This event starts and finishes at the North Elba Horse Showgrounds surrounded by nature and the beauty of the high peaks. Our race continues to grow, anticipating over 750 participants in 2026.

    • The race route for the Half Marathon and 10K encompasses two moderate hills, one at the start and one towards the end.

    • The start time for the Half Marathon and 10K is 8:00 a.m., with the course closing at noon.

    • For Half Marathon & 10K distances, awards for overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places(Male & Female) and top three age groups including 19 and under; 20-29; 30-39;40-49;50-59;60-69 and over 70.

    • NEW THIS YEAR, a 5K! Whether you're walking the beautiful, scenic route with your children or family members while your friends and loved one's race in our Half Marathon and 10K, or you're signing up to run your best 5K of the season...we have something for everyone!

    • The start time for the 5K is 8:10am. For 5K, awards for overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places(M/F) will be awarded. No age group awards for 5K.

    Race Day Parking Information

    Venue Parking: Hours: 6:00a.m.–7:30 a.m. AND after 8:30a.m.

    Parking will close promptly at 7:30 a.m. No vehicles will be allowed to enter after this time until 8:30a.m.

    Important: Once parked, vehicles cannot exit the venue between 7:30 a.m. and the time the last runner has left the start area(approximately 8:30 a.m.). Please plan your schedule accordingly.

    Alternate Parking: If you arrive after 7:30 a.m., you will need to find off-site parking.

    Note: Nearby parking is limited and roadside parking is not permitted.

    Spectators: If arriving after 8:30am, on-site venue parking will be open.
