Welcome to the Green Mountain Bicycle Club!

Founded in the winter of 1970/71, GMBC is the oldest bicycle club in Vermont and sits among the oldest in the country.

The mission of GMBC is to promote safe riding practices, sharing the road, and following state laws pertaining to bicycles (i.e., stopping at stop signs/lights and not to impede traffic flow).

The road is full of dangers, and to mitigate these, GMBC encourages all cyclists to mount a bright rear flasher (and a front one is recommended as well, especially if riding on busy roads), to wear bright clothing and a helmet, use arm signals, to stop at stop signs/lights – or at least to slow to a crawl – and to mount a mirror.

GMBC offers rides from April to November and competitive events from May to August. Join the club’s listserv to receive event announcements or visit the online calendar.

GMBC in the Community

  • In the spring it offers several Intro to Riding training sessions.

  • Is a supporting organization of Local Motion and has worked with it in the past on safe-cycling advocacy/initiatives.

  • Raised over $2,000 for restoration of the Island Line Trail after it was damaged by record flooding of Lake Champlain.

  • Aided a citizen advocate in his attempt to have an enhancement made to the Safe Passing guidance.

  • Played a key role in the inclusion of text in the VT Driver's Manual on how to pass bicyclists.

  • Made suggestions on rewording of state statutes related to bicyclists.

  • Was invited to and took part in a VTrans initiative to improve state roads for bicycle travel.

Note on the BikeReg Fee Charged

  • GMBC is covering half of the fee that BikeReg charges on each membership sold.

What to Expect After You Purchase a Membership

    DOUBLE DOWN DH

You asked, and we listened. We’re throwing our hat in the ring and kicking off a downhill race built for the biggest and the best.

Drop in for the Double Down Downhill at Bolton

Valley, a full weekend of lift-served racing designed for riders who want to go fast, push limits, and send it.

Taking place August 15–16, 2026, this event is all about dialing your line and committing when it counts. Day one is qualifiers, where riders will lay down their fastest runs to earn a spot in finals. Day two is finals, same course, higher stakes, and one more shot to put it all together.

Registration starts at $90 through 5/13 and includes entry to the race plus lift access for both days, regardless of whether you qualify for finals. That means more laps, more time to fine-tune your approach, and a full weekend of riding no matter what. Professional timing will be provided by Eleven11 Timing to keep things tight and competitive.

Categories include Pro Men, Amateur Men, Pro Women, Amateur Women, Grom Boys, and Grom Girls.

Free camping will be available in the lower lots all weekend, making it easy to settle in and stay close to the action. If you’re looking for a little more comfort, on-site lodging is available just steps from the lifts and can be booked in advance. Off the bike, expect a mix of high-energy racing and laid-back bike park vibes, with music, food, and plenty of time to hang in the village after a full day of riding.

Bring your bike, your gear, and everything you need to ride hard for two days. Full face helmets and protective gear are mandatory. Start thinking about your line, because when it’s time to drop in, there’s only one move left to make. Double Down.

Fast, technical and just plain fun! Come out and explore what Bolton Valley Resort has to offer. We will be running Qualifying on saturday and then the big show down on Sunday.

Grab a team of 4 or more.. and on Sunday we will also be doing team times! Adding all members times together for the final results!

  • Saucony Charlotte Covered Bridge Half Marathon & 5k/10k [runsignup.com]

    Sat, Sep 12, 2026 at 8:00 AM

This is definitely one of our racers' favorite races. There are no huge hills and the scenery is beautiful. Beginning and ending at picturesque Shelburne Beach, you will run along dirt, gravel and

paved roads featuring scenic views of Vermont countryside and rural farmland. Run past Charlotte Beach situated on beautiful Lake Champlain just before entering the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge for the first time. The course continues on quiet, rolling hills before arriving at the turnaround. The half marathon runs through the covered bridge twice. The 5K and 10K turn around before reaching the bridge (although it's not that far beyond the 10K turnaround, so if you want to run through it, it's not going to add that much to your finish time for 10K runners).
