Welcome to Alberta's only sand dune 50K/25km-ish race!

It's our 5th anniversary!! Come out and enjoy our celebration.

New this year will be the 25K-ish 2man team race. It's a great chance to be part of Crazy Muley Ultra and get your feet sandy but not commit to the longer distances. It will be the same 25K-ish course but teams will switch out at AS#1. The distances are about 16K and 11K.

Crazy Muley Ultra will start/finish at the Sand Dune Liquor Store parking lot in Edgerton, Alberta. Each course will be one loop and you will enjoy a hilly course that takes you thru sand dune complexes. The course will be a mixture of single track, quads trails and roads (some pavement and gravel). It will be marked with pink/blue (depending on distance) Wainwright Runners pin flags.

This course is meant to show off our local region and unique landscapes. Be prepared to be challenged on non-stop rolling hills, loose sand and little to no shade. Both courses will be 1 loop with both races sharing the first half of the race before splitting off on their own loops. We will have 2 main AS for the 50Km and 1 for the 25km-ish with several water stations to assist in getting you to the finish.

To allow for everyone to have fun and enjoy the area we are finishing at a bar to keep you motivated! The cutoff will be generous with 12hrs for the 50K and 6hrs for the 25K.

We want you to enjoy our local area so stay for discounted beers and meal specials after you finish or cheer on our runners.

To help us with looking after this unique area the race will be cup less so please bring your own reusable one.

Wainwright Runners has a zero tolerance policy for any physical or verbal abuse to any racers, volunteers or race staff. Also have the right to not allow racers with past issues.

    This event will follow the backyard ultra concept of 6.7km loop on the hour every hour for a max of 24 hours (100miles).

    Welcome to Wainwright's first Backyard Ultra!!!

    This event will follow the backyard ultra concept of 6.7km loop on the hour every hour for a max of 24 hours (100miles).

    The general concept will be that each runner will have 1 hour to complete the 6.7km loop. Then on the hour, we will start again over and over until we have no runners or we reach the 24 hour time limit (100miles).

    The winner will the last person standing and the winning assist will be the second last person standing. In the event we have more than 2 runners starting the final loop, the winner will be the fastest final lap with the assist being the second fastest lap.

    This event is meant to be a fun and everyone is welcomed to take part. This is a chance to experience the BYU concept with a fun group of people. Do 1 loop or 24 loops.

    This BYU will also be a fund raiser for the Wainwright Pound in Lassa’s name. For those that do not know Lassa. She was the beloved dog of WR founder Shane Mascarin, that passed away suddenly in the fall of 2025. $20 from each run registration will be donated. We will also accept donation of pet items and food that will be dropped at the Wainwright pound.

    The race will start out at the Wainwright Splash Park and will be ran on all hard surfaces with mostly asphalt running paths and sidewalks with some running on the road. Runners/crews can setup in the grass at the splash park and use the flush toilets on site. There will be no official aid station so bring what you need and help other racers out if you have lots!

    Each racer will receive a hooded blanket, a DNF wood coin and the chance to run 100 miles in town.
