    This race is designed to bring our community together to support teachers, students, and creative learning across Horry County.

    The Bright Ideas Grant Program provides funding for innovative, classroom-based educational projects that fall outside normal public and private school funding.

    Grants are available to all disciplines for grades K–12 throughout Horry County, helping educators turn creative ideas into impactful learning experiences.

    Join us Saturday, May 9th for the first Flytrap 5K Race! Finishers who complete this 5K receive a finishers medal.

    The race takes place on a straight away dirt road with a circle around back to the finish line. Partnering with Friends of Lewis Ocean Bay, this race will kick off the Flytrap Festival 2026. Utilizing a beautiful piece of Solid Waste Authority property, this race and festival hopes to bring more awareness to this beautiful species that is native to South Carolina Bays.

    Please note that this race is not included in the Horry County employee time and financial reimbursement series

    All participants completing the 5K will receive a custom finishers medal. Male and female top three overall finishers will receive a medal, overall winners will not be eligible for age division awards. Male and female age division winners will receive a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place medal for the top three finishers in each division. See below for awards details.
