5k Run Walk

The Gahanna American Legion Post 797 “Walk In Our Boots” Walk/Run fund raising event was first established in 2023 with the inaugural event held at Gahanna Veterans Memorial Park at Creekside. This event is a fundraiser to support once homeless local veterans so they become re-acclimated to a more normal, self-sustaining life with the help of our community. Knowing many of these veterans gave so much during their previous military life our American Legion mission is to support them every step of the way as they regain personal sustainability, re-establish a home and household, and re-enter the workforce overcoming obstacles many of these men and women faced before, during and after living on the streets in Central Ohio.

Lace up for something bigger than the finish line; help provide a critical lifeline to families experiencing a housing crisis.

Join Home for Families (HFF) for our inaugural 5K on the morning of Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day), at Wolfe Park in Columbus, and go the distance for moms and families facing severe housing instability. We are also offering a 1K walk, which will start at the same time as the 5k. With nearly 90% of families led by strong, single moms under 34, your support will help HFF go the distance to prevent homelessness for these young moms and their families.

Run for mom. Run for family. Run for change.

As one of the largest non-shelter housing providers for low-income families in Columbus, Home for Families works behind the scenes with a network of landlords, government agencies, and community partners to provide safe, secure, and affordable housing solutions to over 1,200 families experiencing housing crises each year. We are a family’s exit plan from shelter and actively partner with them to resolve ongoing barriers to housing and provide long-term solutions for stability.

Please note that no pets are allowed at this event. Service animals specifically trained to aid people with a disability are welcome.

Please join us on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at our NEW location of Wolfe Park to participate in The Hunger Run 5K and help chase hunger out of Central Ohio! We've also added a 1-mile event option for those who want to participate in the Hunger Run but aren't ready for a 5K!

We are hosting the 7th Annual Hunger Run 5K in support of Neighborhood Services Inc. (NSI), a local food pantry and resource center located right here in Columbus, Ohio. Our goal is to spread awareness about hunger and food insecurity in central Ohio, bring the community together, and raise money for Neighborhood Services Inc.

Did you know that 13.5% of Franklin County residents are food insecure, nearly 1 in 5 Ohio children live in food-insecure households, and Ohio ranks #1 in food insecurity in the Midwest? These are just a few of the many reasons why Neighborhood Services Inc. is so important. NSI was started in 1965 through the workings of 12 different churches in the Columbus area and has been serving the University District and surrounding zip codes since its creation. NSI provides a variety of services to help support the community and reduce the effects of economic inequality and food insecurity in Columbus. Some of their initiatives include their food pantry, produce market, rent and utility assistance program, and special holiday programs.

In 2025, NSI served 760,089 meals to 50,393 individuals! This FUNdraiser has the ability to help feed even more well-deserving families and Columbus residents who are in need. We would love for you to join us in person (or virtually, if preferred) this May. Sign up today to walk or run, have some fun, and help race hunger out of Columbus!

Special pricing for those aged 23 and younger a $10 discount is automatically applied at checkout.
