TOWN CRIER RACES - JUNE 20, 2026

Come celebrate our 25th RUN of supporting the Saugatuck Public Schools running programs!

All participants will receive a cool finisher medal, custom bib, specially designed T-shirt, and Certificate of Race Completion. Those who participate are eligible for age group awards.

Please join us as we strive to continue our award-winning programs that provide valuable continuing education and important life skills for our local students.

The Town Crier Races 5k, 10k & Half Marathon deliver a fun and scenic view of the Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan area. The beauty of the lakeshore course makes it a favorite of runners year after year.

No one is a stranger on the courses. Every runner’s accomplishments are celebrated, and you’ll have a cheering section whether you brought your own or not. The small-town vibe just can’t be duplicated, and you’ll feel welcome right away.

The event proceeds provide a majority of the funding for the Saugatuck High School Cross Country and Track Teams, donating over $129k since 2002. Help make a difference in the lives of student athletes and have a great time doing it.

    Windmill Island Gardens' Run of the Mill is back for 2026, and we can't wait to see you at our annual 5K fun-run! This year's Run of the Mill event will take place on Saturday, April 18, where proceeds will continue to support future programs and the ongoing maintenance that helps keep Windmill Island Gardens so beautiful! The Run of the Mill 5k course will take you around the island itself and then head out to Window on the Waterfront before looping back to the island towards the finish line.

    Registration is $30 per participant and includes a Run of the Mill 5k finisher medal, and a race t-shirt if registered before Friday, March 27, 2026. Please note, t-shirts are not guaranteed after March 27. While all ages are welcome to participate, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Due to safety concerns, dogs will not be permitted during the 5k.

    New this year, we are excited to offer a youth Mini Millers run! Participants ages 10 and under can join the fun where they can compete in a .2 mile route around Windmill Island Garden's main campus! Registration for Mini Millers is $15 per participant and includes a race ribbon and race t-shirt. Please note t-shirts are not guaranteed after March 27.

    The money raised from the Rat Race will now go right back to BR athletics in attempts to improve our athletic facilities, keep highly qualified coaching staff, provide equipment for our athletes, provide an athletic trainer at all home events as well as help cover the cost for opportunities for our athletes to improve their skills and abilities outside the typical season.

    This is a fundraising event so in efforts to keep cost low this will not be a chipped event. Runners will all have a BIB and the race will be timed. There are opportunities for individuals to get involved that are not interested in running too, check our sponsorship donations :). We appreciate your dedication and commitment to improving athletics here at Black River, the amount of support and gratitude does not go unnoticed. Only participants registered by April 1 are guaranteed a T-shirt.

    Race Times:

    The Flamingo Fun Run starts at 5:30pm and the 5k starts at 6:30pm.

    Will the event be timed?

    We are excited to have Michiana Timing helping us again this year! The 5k route will be chip timed (excluding in-person sign ups on race day). The Flamingo Fun Run will not be timed, however, fun runners will receive a race bib.

    What Is a virtual run?

    A virtual race essentially means registered racers have from now until May 1 to choose a day to run or walk their own fun run or 5k route. This is a great way to spend some time outside while at home! The beauty behind a virtual race is that YOU can choose the location of which you will run or walk! Simply map out a mile or 5K route and get to walking or running. You choose the time and the place! Virtual runners will receive a shirt as long as they register on or before April 8 by 11:59PM. This event will not be timed. You may time your own virtual experience.

    Packet pick-up info:

    Wednesday, April 29th from 5PM - 7PM at Compassionate Heart Ministries (404 Centerstone Court, Zeeland, MI 49464). This is for any registered participant to pick up race stuff! *If you are participating in one of our virtual events, this is the day to stop by and grab your shirt! (We will not ship) Race day check-in begins at 4:30PM (another chance to grab packet). Any unclaimed packets will be donated after race.

    Do I get a shirt?

    Yes! If you sign up on or before April 1st you will receive a shirt. :) Register by April 1st by 11:59PM to guarantee your race shirt. Participants that register after April 1st are not guaranteed a shirt, as our supply will be limited. Our race shirts are short sleeve, wicking shirts.

    What are the age group divisions?

    The 5K age divisions are: 1-6, 7-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74. Each age group will be separated into male & female.

    Are pets allowed on the course?

    No. For the safety of all runners & walkers, we ask that you do not bring your dog(s) or other pet(s).

    Is the route USATF certified?

    No. We have done our best to map out a 3.1 mile 5k route and a 1.1 mile fun run route; however, it might not be exact.

    Oops! I selected the wrong race route OR t-shirt size! Can I change it?

    Yes! Simply email michelle@compheart.org with your change request before April 1st at 11:59PM.

The second walk will be held along the Macomb Orchard Trail on May 2nd with the Holland walk on May 16th being the last one of 2026. We are so honored to partner with our family, friends, and neighbors to stand together in this fight that many of our veterans battle alone. Join us in 1 or all 3 events and help us save lives.

    The Holland Walk will start in the parking lot of Holland State Park Beach with parking available along Lakeshore Dr or in the State Park with a park pass. This is an out and back trek.
