3.1 Miles 5k Run Walk

On November 25th, 2020, during his tour of duty, our Dearborn Police family lost our colleague Sgt. Christopher Hampton to suicide. Chris was a wonderful human being, a caring friend, a loving son, brother and father, and an amazing Police Officer. The Dearborn Police Officer’s Charity decided to start this run/walk in 2021 in Chris’ memory, as his passing brought to light the importance of raising awareness of all those who suffer from anxiety, depressive and other mental health issues – particularly first responders, who often remain silent about these same struggles.

Partnering with the City of Dearborn and Trivium Racing, our inaugural event was a great success, heavily support by our community who turned-out to sponsor, support, volunteer and participate. 2025’s 5th 5K was our biggest and best so far. Keeping Chris’ memory alive, we continue to work with his family to present each event with a theme based on his vast love of ‘80’s and '90's movies. Past themes Robo Cop, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and last year's wildly popular Rocky, bring fun and connection and fond memories for all, even in raising awareness of a very serious topic. This year we’re excited to announce The Big Lebowski as the theme for the 6th Annual Chris Hampton Memorial 5K. We chose this specific date in May this year to coincide with the end of National Police Week, a time when officers who lost their lives in the line of duty are recognized and honored.

Our charity beneficiary this year is First H.E.L.P., which is an organization that reduces mental health stigma for First Responders through education, advocating for benefits for those suffering from post-traumatic stress, acknowledging the service and sacrifice of First Responders lost to suicide, assisting officers in their search for healing, and bringing awareness to suicide and mental health issues.

As we continue to grow, our goals for this 5K will remain the same: to reach more people, add new participants, bring light and awareness and connection to those who have lost someone, or who are they themselves struggling with depressive illnesses, and to continue to raise funds for service organizations like Call for Backup, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors, The Barb Smith Suicide Resource & Response Network, and this year's beneficiary, First H.E.L.P.

Whether you are struggling yourself, are a suicide survivor or survivor family, or an ally and advocate of first responders, or just want to come out to test your athletic abilities or stretch your legs in a beautiful spring park setting, we WELCOME YOU to the 6th Annual Chris Hampton Memorial 5K! PLEASE JOIN US! We believe you’ll be glad you did.

The AB Korkor Foundation is officially retiring the Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk for Mental Health, a bold and inspiring initiative that began as 50 run/walks in 50 days across all 50 states. During the first two years of the event, the Foundation’s founder, Adel B. Korkor, personally ran in every one of the 50 events over 50 consecutive days, embodying the dedication, resilience, and urgency behind the Foundation’s mental health mission.

As the Five Fifty Fifty chapter comes to a close, the Foundation is excited to introduce its next evolution: the Steps For Strong Minds 5K Run/Walk, a family-focused mental health event designed to be more accessible, community-centered, and welcoming to participants of all ages and abilities—continuing the movement forward, one step at a time.

The Strong Minds Sprint is an exciting new 40-yard dash designed especially for kids ages 10 and under. This high-energy event encourages children to stay active while reinforcing the important connection between physical movement and mental well-being. Through fun, friendly competition, young participants build confidence, resilience, and healthy habits that support strong minds and strong bodies. We are thrilled to introduce this new addition and can’t wait to see our youngest runners take off toward a brighter, healthier future.

Join our movement and make mental health a priority in YOUR community! We encourage families to run/walk together and to make that easy, kids 13 and under participate for free. Please note that all participants must register, regardless of age, and youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Proceeds from this event directly support programs that promote mental health awareness and encourage physical activity for kids in your community, helping them build resilience, confidence, and healthy habits that last a lifetime.

The Running To Honor 5K is a timed, family friendly walk (or run) focused on keeping the memory of our Fallen Soldiers & Veterans alive and reminding others that Freedom is never free. The event will take place on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 inside Heritage Park located at 12111 Pardee Rd, Taylor, MI 48180. The start time of the 5K walk (or run) is 8:00 AM in front of the Sheridan Pavilion. The Kids .5K will start at 7:30 AM.

The theme this year is military Veteran mental health. Every day there are 20 to 22 Veterans losing their battle with PTSD. That is a nice way of saying that they intentionally or unintentionally took their own lives. We are hoping we can educate others in the community about how Veterans go from serving our country to ending their lives way too early and more importantly what everyone can do make a difference in the life of a military Veteran so that tomorrow seems a little brighter for them.

We will also be saying the names of all of our Fallen Soldiers and Fallen Veterans before the 5K and walking (or running) in memory of them.

The Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4422, My Warriors Place and Running To Honor organizations will receive the proceeds raised from this event.

We recognize that families want to bring their kids to the Running To Honor 5K but the registration cost might be too much or their kids might not be able to walk (or run) 3.1 miles. As a result we have two events for kids 14 and under! We offer a special discounted price for the 5K walk (or run) and a .5K (that is Point 5K) which is roughly .31 miles. The hope is that this will encourage families to come out and support the cause.

If you can't walk (or run) just come out and enjoy the atmosphere and look at the names and picture of those Fallen Soldiers and Fallen Veterans that we have lost.
