Run, walk, or stroll through the City of Newburgh in Safe Harbors’ annual 5K! With a course that features the incredible architecture of Newburgh’s historic district and stunning Hudson River views, this community-centered race is fun for runners and non-runners of all ages.

The Safe Harbors 5K is part of Spring Into Newburgh, a city-wide celebration of the season featuring the Art on the Block outdoor art market, Newburgh Farmers’ Market, and Wellness Shines on the Green, a festival highlighting local wellness vendors and free fitness classes throughout the day. Come for the run and stay for the fun!

Registration

  • Adults (18+): $35 in advance, $45 at event

  • Youth Under 18: Free!

All participants will receive a complimentary race shirt and bib, as well as refreshments before and after the race.

  • 8 am Registration – Safe Harbors Lobby at the Ritz, 107 Broadway, Newburgh NY

  • 9 am Race Start

  • 10:30 am Awards Ceremony – Safe Harbors Green Outdoor Stage, Broadway and Liberty Street, Newburgh

Awards & Age Divisions

All participants will be chip-timed by Mid-Hudson Timing and results will be posted on the event website. The fastest participants will be recognized in the following divisions:

  • First through Third Overall - Female, Male, and Non-Binary

  • First in Age Division - Female, Male, and Non-Binary:

  • Under 9

  • 10-14

  • 15-18

  • 19-29

  • 30-39

  • 40-49

  • 50-59

  • 60-69

  • 70+

  • First in Walking Division - all genders

  • First in Stroller Division - all genders

Safe Harbors of the Hudson is a dynamic arts and housing nonprofit located in the City of Newburgh, New York.     An annual 5K run/walk and kids 1 mile race on the streets of Chelsea, NY located in the town of Wappingers ( NOT the Chelsea in NYC) to benefit the Chelsea Fire Company, and The Robert VanTassel “Live the Dash” scholarship. Given to 2 Beacon High School Seniors, who show sportsmanship, integrity, and 100% commitment to his/her running goals.

    In 2023, we changed the name of the race to The Robert Van Tassel Live the Dash 5k. Bobby was the race coordinator from the beginning. He ran the race every year and gave the medals out at the end. He was the Fire District Commissioner, past chief, and held every office over the 40 years he served CFD. He passed on October 20, 2022. Running was his passion. He ran until his very last breath. We continue this race in his honor. “LIVE THE DASH”!! The race starts and ends at the fire station on Liberty St. and takes you along the Hudson River. Want to run with friends or family, sign up together!

    Run/walk 4 mile loop around the beautiful Chadwick Lake in Newburgh, NY. The terrain is a wide gravel trail relatively flat and easy with a few small hills. The fall season is a perfect time to enjoy the foliage of this scenic park while participating in this unique event.

    Recognition and awards for the top male and female runners overall and within age categories. T-shirts and swag bags included for the first 100 registrations. There will be raffle tickets available to purchase for donated baskets from local businesses. Food and refreshments will be provided.

    Please join the Kiwanis Club of Newburgh for an amazing experience while supporting our goals and raising awareness of our mission. The funds we raise during this event will be used towards scholarships for educational and other enrichment programs for children of the community. No donation or support is too small…
