Please join us for the 37th Annual Paw Paw Grape Lake 5k Walk/Run. We are committed to maintaining and improving mental health in our community! The funds raised by this race will go to two organizations:

  1. United Christian Services of Eastern VBC (unitedchristianservices-evbc.com)

  2. The Daily Recovery Zone (dailyrecoveryzone.com)

The race again will go around beautiful Maple Lake, starting on Lake Street near the Van Buren Community Mental Health Building (VBCMH) 801 Hazen Street, Paw Paw MI 49079 and ending up on Willard Street.

This event has been reviewed for the physical activity content and has been endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports. This does not reflect the endorsement of the sponsoring organization or the product used.

TEE SHIRT: Tee shirts are only available during early registration. Early registration ends on August 28th 2026. Limited tee shirts are available on race day.

RESULTS AND AWARDS: Both a timing start strip and finish strip will be used for this race. Awards will be based on actual chip time, not gun time. Walkers may not run. If seen running, a walker will be disqualified. The awards ceremony will follow the race and start when the results are ready by T&H Timing. Preliminary results will be posted while runners and walkers are still finishing. The top three (3) finishers in each age division, male and female will receive a medal with where they placed on the back. Results will be posted at Grape Lake 5k Run + Walk Results

ARRIVAL AND PARKING: Parking will be located at the Van Buren Community Mental Health parking lot at 801 Hazen, VBISD Transition Center parking lot at 811 Hazen Street, Tri-County Head Start parking lot at 775 Hazen Street. Please allow plenty of time for parking signage and traffic volunteers will be available to help you.

This year's race is organized by the Paw Paw Grape Lake 5K Committee

“We only have two choices: do nothing, or do something.”

    – Tony Kirwan, Destiny Rescue Founder & International CEO

Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. According to the most recent International Labour Organization (ILO) study, there are an estimated 49.6 million people currently living in modern slavery around the world, and 5.1 million people are in modern slavery on any given day in the United States (ILO 2022).

We are ready to do something. Stop the Traffick! is race festival that in partnership with Destiny Rescue is seeking to raise funds to rescue children from human trafficking. In this, the second annual event, we will begin the morning with a one mile fun run followed by a 5K race, both at Kalamazoo Christian Elementary (note that this course will be off-road and will use the cross-country course), followed by awards.

Before we jump into this year’s preview, let’s be clear about one thing: this 5K includes trails. Yes, trails. Consider this your official trail disclaimer.

We are excited to return to our original setup, starting and finishing on the high school track. There is nothing better than beginning inside the stadium and closing out your race with a strong lap on the track. Fast start. Fast finish. Wildcat style.

Because of ongoing construction in several areas around campus, this year’s exact route is still being finalized. Our team is designing a fun and adventurous course that embraces the spirit of this event. The finalized course map will be reviewed and posted soon.

You can expect a mix of surfaces that keeps things interesting. Portions of the trail, including dirt and grass. Some road sections to let you open up your stride. A combination that reflects cross-country grit with just enough pavement to stay fast.

This is not a pure road race. It is not a straight cross-country course either. It is a Wildcat Road & trail 5K, which means natural terrain, changing rhythm, and a course that rewards focus and effort.

And yes, in case you missed it, there will be a trail.

We will have food and drinks waiting for you at the finish line on the track. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the course. The event will be held rain or shine, though delays or cancellations may occur in the case of dangerous weather. No refunds will be issued.

So lace up your running shoes, trail-ready is encouraged, and get ready.

The trails are calling. And this year, they start and end at home.
