    April 12, 2026

Get ready to lace up your sneakers (or comfy walking shoes!) for a Galveston adventure! Whether you're a seasoned marathoner, a power-walker, a slow-stroller, or just here for the neighborhood vibes, this event is for YOU.

At its core, this mile is about our mission: Food Access. By joining us, you’re supporting a market where every neighbor can access fresh, local, and nourishing food.

    Choose Your Own Pace:

The Neighborhood Stroll: Bring the dog, the kids, and a coffee. This is a celebration of our streets.

The Fun-Run: If you want to break a sweat, go for it! But a leisurely pace is just as celebrated.

The "Cheer & Swag" Path: Not feeling the mile? Head straight to the market, grab your event swag, and get the party started early.

Come solo and make some new friends, or bring your crew for a memorable outing (plus the team with the most people will win 'Biggest Flock' award).

And the best part? The post-race party! We're talking live tunes, delicious local goodies, refreshing drinks, and our weekly farmers market! It's the perfect way to celebrate crossing the finish line (or just finishing a super fun walk!). See you there!

Everyone says exercise is important, but let's be honest: it's easier said than done. Join us for the 4th Annual Preventive Medicine Initiative (PMI) 5k, where we're not just talking about the importance of exercise – we're showing you how to make it a part of your life! Last year, we took 224 participants from the couch to the finish line, and this year we’re excited to run it back. This year, the 5k will be have both in-person and virtual options, and it will conclude with a finisher festival where you will receive free snacks, drinks, games, and FUN! The PMI 5k is more than just a race; it's a celebration of community, health, and making lasting lifestyle improvements.

We understand that for some, taking that first step toward an active lifestyle begins with a simple yet essential element – a pair of shoes. That's why, this year, a portion of our funds will support the Mobility Clinic at UTMB. This student organization is dedicated to working closely with the Galveston community, ensuring that those who are underserved have access to proper footwear & footcare. To date, they've completed three shoe drives and donated over 600 pairs of shoes!

For individuals who are unable to participate in-person, we are offering a virtual option! Registration includes a virtual bib with the opportunity to pick up a packet the week before the race. Additionally, all registrants will be able to pick up their finisher stickers and prizes while supplies last after the race.

There is a limited number of spots available. If you cannot attend the event on May 2nd, 2026, please consider purchasing a shirt and/or making a donation instead of registering as a racer. All donations and proceeds will fund future PMI community projects, and a portion will be dedicated to providing shoes for the underserved. Registration will close on May 1st at 11:59pm or when all spots have filled. Shirt and packet pick-up will be announced closer to race day. Unfortunately, shirts that are not picked-up in person will be recycled 2 weeks after the event.

We will be hosting 4 beginner-friendly training sessions in collaboration with Run Club at UTMB with t-shirt giveaways for lucky participants. Join the Training Program GroupMe for updates and reminders! Follow us on Instagram @prevmedutmb for more details and future updates. For even more information about the race, please visit our website: www.prevmedutmb.wordpress.com

This event is public, and participants do not need to be residents of Galveston or be affiliated with UTMB. Strollers are permitted, but pets will not be allowed on the race course. However, pets are welcome at the finisher festival! We apologize to your furry friends, and we ask you to give them lots of love as our consolation.

See you at the starting line!

Are you ready for some "FAST TIMES" at Z Krewe's 0.5K?

    Z Krewe's 0.5K is going BACK <----- to the 80's!

Join your fellow underachievers for a day (ummm... actually more like 10 minutes) of GLORY, CELEBRATION, and PARTICIPATION MEDALS while raising money for Galveston County Food Bank's Kidz Pacz Program!

Z Krewe's 5th Annual 0.5K will be held at 10:30 am on May 2nd, 2026 at Galveston Bay Brewing in Clear Lake Shores, TX.

    The Details:

    Z Krewe's 0.5K "Race" - That's not a typo. We mean it... POINT FIVE K -

Z Krewe's 0.5K was created for folks who are NOT ready to go the extra mile. In fact, they aren't willing to go a mile at all. This is a "Race" for the rest of us! It's a race event for those who would rather binge Netflix all day, drink a beer or 5, and fill up on carbs! Z Krewe's 0.5k'ers are willing to be silly and have a little bit of fun while raising money to help the Galveston County Food Bank's Kidz Pacz Program to feed hungry Kidz during the summer.

The "Race" will incorporate all the typical race elements into a treacherous 1,640-ish ft "racecourse". But we've added in some amusing obstacles for fun and entertainment. No TRAINING or EFFORT is required. This is a umm.. "Race" for all the NON-RUNNERS, Slackers, Un-Runners, Underachievers and Couch Potatoes! It's OK to take your time and not "race" to the finish line. Everyone will get a medal to show off on Monday at the office!

    Some Race tips:

    • Get to the starting line early so you can stretch (0.3 miles is nothing to take too lightly)

    • At the halfway point (that's a whopping .1555555 miles in), enjoy an ice cold adult beverage (or Kiddo Beverage for those under the age of 21) to stay hydrated and remember to down some carbs for energy

    • Celebrate crossing the finish line and receive your "Finisher's Medal" with a FINISHER'S BEER (ROOT BEER - for the Kiddos)!

    RACE DAY SCHEDULE:

10:30 am "ish" - Registration Station opens for Packet Pick Up

    11:05 am "ish" - Stretching & Warm-up with Perla D Fitness

11:45 am "ish" - Galveston Bay Brewing's Inflate-a-DERBY begins ... and ends 2 minutes later!

12:05 pm "ish" - Test of Endurance Begins!

1:05 pm "ish" - Costume Contest begins!

3:00 pm "ish" - AFTER PARTY at Galveston Bay Brewing!

    Safety First!

A possibly staffed, or not staffed at all, First-Aid Station will be in place. You know, JUST IN CASE. The First-Aid Station will be stocked with Band-Aids, alcohol, and chewing gum in case there is an emergency.

    Goodies and Fun Stuff!

Let's talk about the GOOD STUFF!!! Your entry fee will get you a bag of swag filled with one of those cool pretentious "Race" Stickers that will say 0.5K, a fabulous T-shirt to prove you were there, and "Finisher Medal" to show off Monday at the office so that everyone can be jealous of your accomplishments! But wait... There's MORE! All Regular & VIP Entry's will also be given a FREE BEER at the Finish Line!

    • IF YOU WANT A T-SHIRT - AND WHO DOESN'T WANT ONE OF THESE BAD BOYS - YOU MUST REGISTER BEFORE APRIL 1st, 2026!!!

REGISTRATIONS AFTER THIS DATE WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT (or other Swag items)!!!

Regular Old Joe Entry - "Just like a real NO-LYMPIC ATHLETE"

    • All Finishers will receive a pretentious oval Euro-style 0.5K Race Sticker that you can attach to the rear window of your car to show everyone that a true athlete is behind the wheel.

    • T-Shirt, of course!

    • Cinch Bag - To hold all your Goodies!

    • Finisher Medal - everyone gets recognized for their achievements at this event, no matter how bad they are, because we are all about positivity and self-worth!

    • Finish Line Beer - YES! A FREE BEER!!!

VIP UPGRADE - "GO FOR THE GOLD"

Don't feel like running? Don't think you can make it the full 656 Steps? Then you should be a VIP! For an additional $30, you don't even have to run!!! How awesome is that?!

Let's be honest - If you have the money to buy your way into doing nothing, then you should be able to. So go ahead and grab that VIP Entry! You deserve it!

In addition to all that Regular Swag (listed above), You will receive:

    • VIP Lanyard

    • Private party on the pier .... More details TBA! (IT WILL BE EPIC!!!)

    KIDS 0.5K

The Kids 0.5K is for Participants under the age of 21. These ALL-STAR Kiddos will receive a Medal and a Finish Line ROOT BEER once they reach the Finish Line! (Sorry Kids ... No Alcohol for you!) Shirts and other swag items are not included with this registration.

Virtual Race Option! – “Swag without the effort”.

Can’t make the “Race” – Don’t worry about it! You can participate from the comfort of your couch! Virtual Participants will get a t-shirt, the pretentious oval sticker, and a Finisher Medal just like everyone else so you can brag that you are a finisher of the 0.5K and no one will know any different. Brilliant! (All virtual participant names are stored in an encrypted database certified secure by the NSA and will be held in strict confidence and will never be released to the public. Your secret is safe with us.)

Walk-ups and Procrastinators (over the age of 21)

Walk-up's and all those people that just kept putting off registration until the very last minute will be able to sign up the Morning of the big "RACE"! Swag will NOT be guaranteed with this registration You may get a cool cup, or a koozie, or a sweet bag to carry stuff in. You may just get a moon rock... WHO KNOWS!? But what we can tell you is that you will get a chance to conquer all 1,640 feet of Z Krewe's 0.5K and some samples of beers from some AMAZING Local Breweries!

Price for this event will be announced MAY 1st, 2026.

    Sponsorship Opportunities

All the fun stuff aside, we are serious about the end result — to support the Galveston County Food Banks Kidz Pacz Program. The money raised at this event will help provide Kidz in Galveston County weekly snacks and meals during the summer months when School Lunches are not available for them. And we'd really like your help! As a sponsor, your business will be associated with what we believe will be the funniest, coolest, and craziest event of the year. Levels start at $500 and include logo on marketing materials and swag, race entries, volunteer opportunities, and more!

Can't do a Sponsorship but you still want to be involved with Participants? Adventure Stations can be purchased for $250. You can create your own obstacle or challenge for Participants to face on the "race" course. We encourage any humorous activity. The goal is to be fun, silly, & foolish!
