5k Run Walk

PDX Recovers is more than a 5K. It’s a chance to heal together. In a city known as Bridge City, this race connects running with recovery, neighbors with neighbors, and hope with action. It’s not just a fundraiser. It’s a movement—people training, walking, running, and rebuilding their lives together.

This event is hosted by Union Gospel Mission of Portland, an organization that has served people experiencing homelessness, hunger, addiction, and abuse in the Portland community for nearly 100 years.

Through programs that provide meals, showers, shelter, outreach and long-term recovery for men, women, and children, Union Gospel Mission Union Gospel Mission offers life-changing pathways toward stability and hope. Proceeds from the race will help support these programs and the individuals and families working to rebuild their lives.

We are back again at OES in SW Portland, starting at 9:45 with kids and the 5k to follow at 10:15!

Every spring, multiple Southwest Portland Faith Organizations and Community Partners join hands to meet the need of hunger specifically, by working to supply Neighborhood House’s (https://nhpdx.org/) Free Food Market, the largest west of the Willamette. This joint effort is known as the Southwest Hope Campaign. Since 2016, Missio Church has organized the SW Hope 5k as a culmination of the greater campaign.

What can $1 buy me at a grocery store? One, maybe two, canned goods at the most. For $1, Neighborhood House can buy 4 pounds of food directly from Oregon Food Bank. We quickly realized we could turn a simple canned food drive into a huge tool to empower Neighborhood House and reach hundreds more hungry neighbors.

This is where you come in. We invite you to run with us in our annual SW Hope 5K because each $1 we raise together far outweighs it’s worth in canned goods individually. If we run together, our neighbors here in SW Portland won’t have to experience the insecurity of not knowing where their next meal is coming from.

Founded in 2012 by four friends passionate about running and Portland’s natural beauty, Stumprunners has grown into a welcoming crew of around 30 members who explore the city’s trails together. Centered on community and mindfulness, they embrace the practice of forest bathing to connect more deeply with nature during their runs, often venturing through Forest Park’s Wildwood and Leif Erickson trails. Meeting regularly at Dragonfly Coffee House, the group fosters inclusivity by welcoming runners of all levels and building friendships that extend beyond running into Portland’s vibrant food and drink scene. Their commitment to preserving local trails is reflected through collaboration with organizations like the Forest Park Conservancy. With Portland’s mix of urban energy and lush green spaces as their backdrop, Stumprunners embody a grounded, supportive spirit that enriches the city’s diverse running culture.
