2027 Registration
Before signing up.....we have a "zero tolerance" stance with registration. There are no refunds, deferrals, bib switches, or transfers of any sort. If you don't like our rules, PLEASE find another race. There are literally thousands of races out there. Our races aren't for everyone. Anyone contesting our rules throughout the year will automatically be banned from all PA Trail Dog events.25K Cut-off-- All runners/hikers MUST reach the View (mile 4) by 11:30am and the mile 8.5 aid station by 2pm or you'll be pulled. These are hard cut-offs. No exceptions. These cut-offs ensure a 9 hour finish.50K Cut-offs-- Mile 7.5 by 10:30am or you'll be directed onto the 25K course to finish. Mile 17 by 1pm and mile 25 by 3:15pm. All are hard cut-offs with no wiggle room to ensure a 10 hour finish. Please note: We DO NOT hire course photographers for any of our events. We do, however, usually have some awesome volunteers out there taking pics and we thank them for their time and expertise. We'll share their pics on the Hyner Facebook page and PA Trail Dog website after the event as we get them.
Registration Rules
There are NO REFUNDS, NO DEFERRALS, NO BIB SWITCHES, NO TRANSFERS of any sort, and NO BANDITS for this event. And the cut-offs are hard cut-offs to ensure 9 hour finishes for the 25K and 10 hour finishes for the 50K. PLEASE don't sign up if you don't like our rules or cut-offs. In the event we have a waitlist, the PA Trail Dogs reserve the right to invite in runners who volunteer or have done other Trail Dog events before any other runners on the list. We do try to get as many runners off the list as we possibly can so be patient.
Bib Pickup
Bib pickup is Friday April 16th from 3-7pm and Saturday April 17th from 6:45am-8am for the 50K and 7:30am-9am for the 25K. There is no electricity or water at this site so please fill your packs/bottles before arriving. We will have an ice trailer on site if needed before or after the race. It will be located just behind the registration tent.
Spectator Access
Very important....the course is very remote and there are no parking areas whatsoever out there. And the mountain roads are very narrow. The ONLY accessible aid station for the 25K is Hyner View State Park at mile 4. Please relay this to family and friends. And the 50K spectator access areas are Hyner View State Park at mile 3 and Hyner Run State Park at mile 10/25.
50K Qualifying Standards
This is not a beginner 50K and we expect ALL runners to finish in under 10 hours. Road races do not count as qualifiers as they have no relevance to this sport. Please put down a race and your time that shows you are capable of completing 31 miles in under 10 hours. During the race, runners not getting to the 25/50K intersection by 10:30am (mile 7.5) will automatically be directed onto the 25K course to finish. Mile 17 aid station at Dry Run Rd cut-off is 1pm. And Hyner Run SP aid station on the way back at mile 25 is 3:15pm.

Hey everyone, if you missed getting into the Hyner Challenge this year, check out some of our other great events. The PA Trail Dogs also organize the Slate Run 25K/Half, the Sproul 10K at Hyner, the Hyner Half at Hyner, the Boulder Beast in Lock Haven, the Wilds 25/50K at Little Pine State Park, and the View 25/15K at Hyner in November.. Registration for all these races are currently open via ultrasignup and expect to fill up quickly this year. More information can be found at www.patraildogs.com. See you on the trails soon!!!!
Event's current local time: 5:27 AM ET
Description
A sixth year event to give runners a chance to run parts of the Hyner Challenge in the fall. The 25K will be modified to bypass Johnson Run but still give everyone the challenge Hyner is known for. The View, Post Draft, SOB, and Huff Run will remain as the main trails used for this event. And again for 2025, we'll be offering the 15K option. You'll follow the 25K up to the View and then split from the course at mile 5.5 and head back using the Huff Run Trail. It's a great option for those not looking for a 25K distance but still wanting to get to the View.
Registration
Registration opens December 18th and is open to the first 500 runners. PLEASE.... serious runners/hikers only. Do not sign up if you only plan on walking the course. The daylight hours are shorter this time of year and we expect everyone to be done within 6.5 hours. This course will be "slightly" easier and even a little shorter than the usual Hyner 25K. Expect 3000 feet of elevation gain over 15 miles. If you're not ready for the 25K, give the new 15K option a try.
Registration Rules
There are NO REFUNDS, DEFERRALS, BIB SWITCHES, or BANDITS for this event. No exceptions!!! If you don't like our policy for this race, PLEASE refrain from signing up.

Black Forest Ultra - Diabolically Epic!
One of the toughest 100k trail ultras in the Northeast. Midnight start. No crews. No pacers. No spectators. Diabolically epic!Experience the brutal yet stunning beauty of the Black Forest Trail deep in the mountains of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Climb to astounding views of the surrounding peaks and valleys and run through an assortment of forest types ranging from pine plantations, giant hemlocks and red spruce - all in the peak of fall colors. But beware, some of these beautiful vistas require climbing elevation gains of over 1,000 ft in under a mile! The course is a lollipop with over 13,400 ft of elevation gain; this is a tough and taxing course without a doubt and to add a twist to the equation, the course reverses each year so that the majority of elevation gain alternates from the back half of the course to the front half. If that monkey wrench wasn't sufficient already, the race starts at midnight in the inky blackness and you will have a strict 19 hours to complete the course! Not hard enough you say? Here's a few more layers of crazy. No crews. No pacers. No spectators. Some are calling this the evil and twisted step brother of the Worlds End 100k. No matter how you classify this beast, be prepared to exorcise your demons!
Race Information
Everything you may need to know is located on our Black Forest Ultra website! Information on the website includes: bib pick up locations, course maps, aid station charts, results, photos, service requirements, and much more.
How diabolical can it be?
