Their mission is to empower individuals experiencing homelessness through compassionate outreach, comprehensive support services, and strong community partnerships, creating pathways to stable housing and long-term stability.

The organization operates emergency shelters and medical respite programs, administers supportive housing initiatives, provides critical linkages to resources through street outreach, offers job-readiness assistance, and leads New Mexico’s SOAR program, which helps individuals apply for SSI/SSDI benefits.

    How You Can Help

Heading Home is gratefully accepting the following items for clients:

    β€’ Coats

    β€’ Gloves

    β€’ Hats

    β€’ Warm socks

You may also make a monetary donation to support the purchase of mattresses for newly housed individuals and familiesβ€”an immediate, life-changing need as people transition to stable housing.

    History of the Event:

Ellen was a wonderful Occupational Therapist, teacher, friend, inspiration, and driving force to many in the field of autism. She had a magical way with autistic individuals and their families. Ellen had served the New Mexico Autism Society’s Board of Directors as President, Treasurer, and workhorse for many years. She also helped many children, teachers, and therapists as a member of the APS Autism Resource Team. We lost Ellen to cancer in 2009, but her spirit will remain with all who knew her.

Because of Ellen and her dedication to the autism community, New Mexico Autism Society decided to honor her memory with this race. Each year, the New Mexico autism community gathers at Balloon Fiesta Park to help raise acceptance, to educate, and celebrate our autistic community and their families. The race is our biggest fundraiser of the year and helps fund all the programs and events we host.
