    A Partnership for Progress

A Cure In Sight collaborates with leading research facilities and dedicated physicians that specialize in Ocular Melanoma treatment. Together, we channel the net proceeds from these events into ongoing research projects and patient support programs. Your involvement directly contributes to advancing the quest for a cure. Walk shoulder-to-shoulder with Ocular Melanoma survivors, their families, and the medical professionals who care for them at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University School of Medicine.

All ages are welcome to attend. Come run, walk, or stay in one place and play games at the Fourth Annual Lookin' for a Cure 5K at Stanford, hosted by A Cure in Sight and the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford. Set up your team, invite your friends and family, start your fundraiser and you are off to the finish line. Proceeds from this event will support the Stanford Ocular Oncology Program. Stanford is a national leader in providing state-of-the-art care for ocular melanoma patients of all ages and has pioneered groundbreaking research advances. Prithvi Mruthyunjaya, MD, MHS, professor of ophthalmology who anchors the ocular tumor service at Stanford is also working hard at Stanford to bring this event to fruition.

The race also aims to spread the word about the importance of early detection by getting regular dilated eye exams. Ocular melanoma makes up approximately 5 percent of melanomas in the United States. It is estimated that between 6-8 people per million will be diagnosed annually in the Western world.

Rising up from the depths of Lake Chabot, the Bad Bass (a strangely kilt-wearing, bagpipe-playing Scottish bass with teeth) shows itself once again on July 18th 2026! Why is he Scottish? What is he doing in Castro Valley? How can he play bagpipes with his fin? We have no idea how to answer those questions. Why is he so bad-to-the-fishbone? Maybe he just knows how awesome the trails of Lake Chabot really are!

Whatever the Bad Bass is doing here, we hope you'll join us at the beautiful Lake Chabot Marina in Castro Valley for the scenic Bad Bass 5K, 10K or Half Marathon!

Have you ever wondered how you would do if everyone ran just the Rockaway 5K (and ½ the people didn't go off and do the 12K?). THIS is the chance to find out on one of the most scenic runs of the year. Start off running south along Rockaway beach, then up the switchbacks, followed by a ¼ mile grade to a long downhill to run along Linda Mar Beach before the turnaround. Then it's back up and over, to a fast, flat finish.

    Event details and schedule

Course starts and finishes at the parking lot located at Dondee and San Marlo Ways, Pacifica. Parking available at the start with overflow parking available in the nearby Rockaway Beach area.

Race day check-in begins at 8am and the race will start at 9am. Finisher ribbons to all runners and place ribbons to Top 5 M/F/NB runners.

Race is held rain or shine and we regret no refunds.
