  🚴‍♂️ The Highs & Lows Tour: A Ride for Every Journey 🚴‍♂️

  The Highs & Lows Tour is a one-day cycling event featuring a variety of routes designed to showcase the natural beauty and terrain of New Hampshire. Riders can choose from traditional road routes, mixed-surface gravel adventures, and—new for 2026—a mountain biking option that opens up even more ways to explore.

  This year, all rides begin and end on the scenic campus of Plymouth Regional High School, nestled at the gateway to the Pemi-Baker Valley. From there, road riders will explore the Baker River Valley, winding through charming towns and surrounded by stunning mountain views. Those tackling the full century will venture even farther—into the Connecticut River Valley and over Mount Cube—for a truly epic experience.

  The mixed-surface routes wind through quiet backroads, cross covered bridges, and feature classic gravel roads such as Perch Pond Road and Sandwich Notch. For riders hungry for more miles after lunch, the full 65-mile course is among the most challenging adventures conceivable on two wheels. The post-lunch 25-mile segment includes iconic climbs like Texas Hill, Bridgewater Hill, and Poole Hill, packing 3,500 feet of elevation gain into this leg alone—destined to become a classic bucket-list ride.

  Mountain bikers will find beginner-friendly options right at Plymouth Regional High School, along with more advanced loop options at Holderness School, just a short ride or drive away. More details on the inaugural mountain bike offering will be available soon.

  All road and mixed-surface routes are fully supported, with SAG vehicles and well-stocked rest stops providing hydration, nutrition, and encouragement along the way. The mountain bike event will also feature a central, fully supported rest stop.

  Whether you prefer pavement, gravel, or singletrack, the Highs & Lows Tour is a multi-course event built for every rider, every pace, and every purpose.

  And when the riding is done, the celebration continues with a community event featuring games, music, and entertainment for riders, families, and supporters alike.

  Vermont Youth Cycling is excited to welcome you to our first race of the 2026 season on Saturday, August 22! This course at Ascutney Outdoors + Ascutney Trails and will offer a variety of fun and flowy descents, great single track and double track for passing opportunities, and a bit of climbing to earn all that fun downhill!

  We will likely use this course, or something very similar.

  CAMPING ON SITE (Friday night only)

  IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF VTYC YOUR REGISTRATION TO ALL RACES IS FREE. PLEASE USE THE HONOR SYSTEM AND THE COUPON CODE YOU WERE EMAILED. If you are not a member, please join the League (and enjoy the rest of the season FREE + member benefits!) or pay the $50 single race entry fee.

  Parents are encouraged to contribute to the festival atmosphere by bringing a tent/chairs and food for your riders. Please bring what you will need for the day and pack out your trash. Portable toilets will be available on site.

  Burgers and dogs for purchase thanks to Brownsville Butcher and Pantry! All proceeds from food sales will go to the VTYC scholarship fund.

  Awards will be given to the top five riders in each category so make sure you stick around! We will do a Junior/Cat C podium at approximately 11am. Cat A/B podiums will occur at the completion of those events.

  Course Pre-riding

  The course will be open to pre-ride Saturday morning from 8:30-9:45am before the first race takes off. Cat A and B riders may pre-ride at 10:45 and MUST yield to Junior riders still out on course.

  Chip Timing

  We will have volunteers collecting chip in the finish chute. Riders MUST return their chip or they will be charged $50.

  Volunteers

  We need many volunteers to make the day run smoothly! Please sign up to help us out!

  Other

  Independent racers are welcome! If you want to participate but aren't linked up with a team yet, please register as an 'Independent' rider and come out for a fun time!

  If you have young riders below 5th Grade, bring them along as there will be lots of fun racing to watch.

  The long wait is over, Vermont’s premier Cross-Country and Enduro stage race is BACK! With the amazing success of our inaugural Woodstock Triple Crown Throwdown last summer, we are bringing back this fundraiser that supports the Woodstock Area Mountain Bike Association (WAMBA)! This event is truly one-of-a-kind, featuring some of the best riding in Vermont! The Triple Crown Throwdown is an unparalleled adventure to support our amazing trails and to test your endurance. One day, three networks, three XC “Superstages”, 4-6 Enduro “Substages,” food and beer included, and all-day stoke and good times. All Triple Crown Throwdown proceeds will fund ongoing trailwork and future projects at WAMBA.

  “People's Hill Climb”!

  Join us for an ascent up one of the USA’s most iconic climbs! The race takes place on a scenic state park road that’s completely closed to traffic. Compete head to head against some of the finest hill climbers on the east coast, or challenge yourself to conquer one of the hardest hills in the country.

  Our partner is once again the Ascutney Trails Association non-profit and all proceeds from the event will go to their important work developing trails for public use on Mt. Ascutney.

  REGISTRATION

  • Juniors (under 18) use the code JUNIOR for a $10 discount

  • No USAC license required

  FAQ

  I'm not sure what my FTP is or which wave to register for? Don't stress it! The waves are just to get groups of riders with similar ability the chance to challenge themselves against each other. Just pick one you think is about right. You can always go in and edit your wave later in Bikereg if you change your mind.

  I'm not super interested in head to head, I just want to race against the clock? No problem! We will still have official timing so you can see your official time and how to you stack up against your age group and/or your previous best.

  I'm only a Cat 4 but I smash up hills and want to race in Wave A against the heavy hitters? Go for it! The USAC categories are listed as a guide just to help you find the right level of competition, there are no official Cat restrictions.

  What happens if I decide to change my Wave? You can change your category after registering in Bikereg up until registration closes.

  RACE DAY SCHEDULE

  • Number pick-up open from 8:45 AM until 10 AM.

  • Course is open to riders from 8:45 - 10:15 AM on race day.

  • Drop bags (with clothes, etc.) can be left at the registration table before 10:10 AM to be transported to the finish line.

  • Snacks and hydration (water and Gatorade) will be provided at the finish.

  • The course will close to all traffic promptly at 10:15am

  • No riders or vehicles will be allowed back down the course until the last rider has finished.

  • First wave starts at 10:30 AM.

  • Awards ceremony will take place at the summit after last racer finishes and results are tallied

  • Going back down:

  • Racers need to arrange their own car rides down from the top of the mountain or ride down.

  • Limited parking at the finish line (top of the mountain). Carpooling is strongly encouraged for those who want to drive down.

  • You may bicycle down after the race. Use caution when descending, there are some frost heaves.

  • Stop frequently to let your brakes and rims cool! Be especially careful if you have carbon rims. Letting a little air out if your tires before starting the ride down the mountain is recommended.

  WEATHER

  • If it does happen to rain the race will go on, an extra challenge!

  • If conditions are severe (driving rain, high winds, lightning) we will postpone the start for as long as our vendors can accommodate. We will only cancel the race if the conditions refuse to improve and make the course unsafe to ride.

  • In a worst case scenario where we have to cancel we can all head over to Harpoon brewery and commiserate. We have created a virtual route that mimics the course and will schedule a date for a virtual race if needed!

  • All proceeds are going to the Ascutney Trails Association non-profit, so in the end its all for a great cause.

  • Mt. Ascutney State Park requires pets to be on a leash less than 10’ or safely confined at all times. Your pet is expected to have current rabies vaccination. Pick up after your pet.

  • Campsites are available at Mt. Ascutney and Wilgus State Parks. For more information on camping, visit Vermont State Parks or call the Reservation Call Center at 1-888-409-7579 (Mon–Fri, 9am–4pm).

We will stop the race if conditions are deemed unsafe for the riders in the race. We will not cancel the race for "uncomfortable" conditions.

  REFUND/EXCHANGE POLICY: No registration transfers or refunds after registration closes on August 1.
