Course Description

The Little Apple (50K) is one lap of the traditional 88% gravel course. The Kong (100K) is also the same, made up of 1 long continuous course. The King Kong (150K) is the Grande Dame of the weekend. You'll be doing the Little Apple course and No Man's Land course. This is very challenging and roughly 80% gravel. You, your kit, and your bike will need to be Present and Correct. Think of this as self-supported. The winner (both male and female) will be crowned King Kong, Queen Kong, a title they will keep until the following year where they will have to defend it.

Registration

Race Day registration opens at 6:45 am and closes 30 minutes before each race. Online registration closes the Friday evening prior to the race. Register online at Bikereg.com. Day-of-entry fees are through bikereg. Day of registration incurs a $20 late fee. All riders must sign a USAC rider release form and event waiver Permit# 4761. All racers in the USAC race must have a USA Cycling license. There’s also a discount code for first-time USA Cycling license holders that drops the license cost to $50. The code is INTROMEMB25.

*State Championships

State championships will be awarded to men and women in the USAC, Masters 40+, and 50+ categories in the 100K distance and junior men and women in the 50k distance. To compete for the state championship title, racers must be residents of Illinois. Jerseys will be available for podium pictures and individual purchase through Pactimo.

The Universal Sole Summer Trail Challenge

    THREE DISTANCES to Choose!

    June 27, 2026 @ 9AM

Trail running has always been in our USOLE DNA! We were the first running store

in Chicago to bring trail racing to the Chicago running community. These trail races are great courses for folks wanting to get off the roads and enjoy some of our beautiful trails, but not have to be an expert trail runner to get to the finish. Our trail races are very laid back and great fun for the entire family, making it fun & easy for all! The USOLE Trail Challenge is great for people of all ages and all abilities looking to change up the running routine and get “off” the roads!

    Trail Race Location:

We will be headed to Wolf Road Woods, part of the Palos Trail System to tackle our classic USOLE 3 mile course! Runners running the 6 or 9 mile will have access to water before heading out back out on the second & third three mile loops. It is recommended to carry a hand held bottle or a hydration belt if you need on-course hydration. Bottles can be filled at start/finish line as well as at the split aid station.

BRING OLD RUNNING SHOES OUT TO THE RACE TO RECYCLE!

Reduce Waste Chicago is a nonprofit organization that empowers residents to address climate change through waste reduction on a personal, producer, and policy level. They host Reuse & Recycling Pop-Up events across the city, where they collect a selection of items that can be reused, repurposed, or are difficult to recycle. • The Forge Trail Run Festival [runsignup.com] [Register at runsignup.com]

    Sat, Nov 14, 2026 at 7:15 AM

    Race and Course Information

The Forge Trail Run Festival will embrace the adventure and challenge of late-fall, mid-west trail running with 10K, 20K, 30K, and 60K events. The races will be run on

single/double-track trails in The Forge and adjoining trails, within the woods and on some gravel around the historic Lemont Quarries and I&M Canal.

The courses will start and finish within the Forge. The courses wind through the single and double track trails within the woods and some gravel trails around the historic Lemont Quarries and I&M Canal throughout the Forge and adjoining trails.

The 10K will be one lap, the 20K (Half Marathon) will be two laps and the 30K will be a three lap course. Our newest offering - the 60K - will be six laps. Total mileage may not be precise, but will be close to the promoted distances. This is a trail race and we want the natural terrain and flow to guide the course and distance.

The gravel trails are flat. The single-track sections have variable terrain and surfaces ranging from dirt, grass, rocks, mud, more rocks, roots, mulch, stumps, critters, etc. A few sections are technical with several short but steep inclines and downhills. The defining character and primary challenge of the course is the variable surface. There are not any significant elevation changes. We would rate this course as moderately challenging for experienced trail runners and more difficult for runners with less experience on trail.
