    SOUTH CAROLINA TRAIL RUNNERS

Runners and families are invited to enjoy the great outdoors on the doorstep of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwest South Carolina. The scenic 5k course is a great for novice trail runners and experienced racers alike. The single track trails meander along and across scenic Carrick Creek from the nature center as you

climb toward Pinnacle Mountain. After a short climb, the 5k runners will race downhill, looping back toward the start finish line.

Up for more of a challenge? The 15k race course, which is currently closer to a17K, will test the most seasoned trail runners. It follows the same route as the 5k for the first two miles. However, the 15k course climbs nearly 2000 feet over the first 5 miles. You will struggle to make it over several gaps and reach the race’s high point of Pinnacle Mountain. As you descend you will be rewarded with spectacular views from Bald Rock and other overlooks. More stream crossings, gnarly roots and jagged rocks will keep you on your toes as you wind your way back down the valley toward the finish. All racers will welcome the sight of the finish line where there will be plenty of food and ice cold drinks to replenish your body after a tough run. And, receive our super soft shirts and finishers awards will be provided to all runners.

Please note: Keep in mind that everything in Pisgah National Forest is fairly advanced. Some are more intermediate, but all trails there require a lot of climbing and there are no “easy” options. They are all raw old hiking trails full of steep narrow off camber, roots and rocks. It’s GREAT riding for many riders, but if riders are looking for something more mellow the trails in DuPont state forest (15min away) are much more beginner and intermediate friendly, with a lot of flowy trails that aren’t as steep as Pisgah with lots of berms and rollers.

It’s time to turn the volume up to 111!

The Pisgah 111 is the quintessential crusher of a cross-country endurance MTB race. Racers follow a 65.1 mile course with 10,200' feet of climbing along the most iconic trails and gravel roads known in Pisgah National Forest. Just peek at the course map and list of trails and you’ll immediately get chills just thinking about the epic scenery and terrain you’ll encounter.

This is a true mountain bike race with no map reading skills required, just follow the arrows. Think of it as the most exciting (and grueling) tour of Pisgah you can imagine during the peak of the leaves changing in the forest.

It certainly wouldn’t hurt to study the map and cue sheets to know what you’re getting yourself into, as some of these trails will test your lungs and your legs while the scenery blows your mind.

There will be FOUR rest areas (at three locations) along the way that will be stocked with water, food (PB&J, fruit, salty snacks, sweet snacks, bars), first aid, and neutral mechanical support. Riders may send drop bags to each rest area. Be sure to read the information below, too.

Not enough racing for you? Register for the entire King and Queen of Pisgah series!
