Katie Crowell was a dedicated member of our Milton community who gave 100% of herself in service to others. She was an advocate, a runner, a volunteer, a fundraiser, a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. This amazing woman was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in 2015 while 32 weeks pregnant.

Katie has always used her passion for running to help others. Well before her MBC diagnosis, she was on the race team for the American Liver Foundation. It was there she met her husband, Mike. Later, after her diagnosis, Katie turned to her love of running to find some normalcy while continuing her work with various charities, including Dana-Farber, The Joe Andruzzi Foundation, Christmas in the City, and the Glover PTO. In the span of 15 years, Katie has raised well over $100,000 for her favorite causes.

Armed with the knowledge that her subtype of cancer carried an average lifespan of 2-3 years, Katie persevered and made it her mission to raise awareness of MBC, campaigning fiercely for its patient population and much-needed funding for MBC research. Katie understood that her longevity was correlated with drug research that came directly out of Dana-Farber. Through her resolve, she raised thousands of dollars to help continue this research, always wanting to pay it forward. Her compassion helped countless women who faced and will face similar struggles. Katie's motto was “Grace + Grit,” qualities she embodied.

Katie's act surrounds us all—in her beautiful children, her advocacy, the lives of other patients who have gained strength from her, and the innovative research that is currently happening, thanks partly to the money she raised. Her impact and contributions will continue to inspire many future runners. Please join us for the 5th Annual Grace + GRIT 5k so we can continue Katie's legacy in supporting cancer patients and their families!

The Katie Crowell Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity; EIN #92-2047293. For more information or to donate directly to the foundation, visit www.katiecrowellfoundation.org

ABOUT THE COLONIAL ROAD RUNNERS BOSTON MARATHON BUS

If you are a South Shore runner who is registered for the 2026 Boston Marathon, here is the best way to get to Hopkinton on race day (Monday, April 20), without having to travel into Boston to take a BAA shuttle bus. Colonial Road Runners sponsors a comfortable intercity "coach" bus that goes directly to Hopkinton from the Braintree MBTA Red Line Station. In Hopkinton, the bus will be parked near the Athletes Village at Hopkinton High School, in a lot set aside by the BAA exclusively for running clubs. The bus will remain in Hopkinton, and available for your use, until after all of the marathon "waves" are underway.

    SECURITY MEASURES

According to the BAA, runners using our bus “should be prepared for inspection.” Also, while runners will be allowed to have personal items (food, clothing, etc.) on the bus, be aware that THERE WILL NOT BE ANY BAGGAGE TRANSPORTATION FROM HOPKINTON TO BOSTON. (The CRR bus does NOT go to Boston after the race begins, and will NOT provide transportation back from Boston to Braintree.)

    DEPARTURE LOCATION

The Colonial Bus will depart from the Braintree MBTA Red Line Station, located near the Union Street exit from Route 3 (Exit 40, formerly Exit 17). (Street address: 197 Ivory Street, Braintree) This will allow you to park at the adjacent MBTA garage ($9/day), and return by subway or commuter rail to your car after finishing the Boston Marathon.

    DEPARTURE TIME

6:30 AM SHARP! This departure time is based on the BAA's required arrival time in Hopkinton for club buses.

    COST

Registration for the bus is $40 per person. Colonial Road Runners members receive a $10 discount (automatically applied at checkout), for a net cost of $30. You can sign up for a Colonial Road Runners membership during the registration process for the Bus, and receive the $10 member's discount immediately! (For full information on Colonial Road Runners, visit www.colonialrunners.org.)

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Colonial Road Runners Boston Marathon Bus is available ONLY to runners who are registered for the Boston Marathon.

Bus registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration fees are non-refundable.

PIONEERS Run Crew is a transformative and influential running community that has been reshaping the Boston running scene since its founding in April 2017. Established by Sidney Baptista, the crew was created to directly address the lack of diversity in the city's running culture by building a welcoming and inclusive hub in the Dorchester neighborhood. With a "no runner left behind" policy, a community of over 500 members, and a powerful lineup of their own signature races like the 26.TRUE Marathon, PIONEERS is a true lifestyle and a force for positive change.
