That Dam TT is a time trial race in Baltimore County. The race is a challenging time trial around the Prettyboy Reservoir watershed. All proceeds from the race are donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Maryland Chapter.

The race is held on a technical 25K circuit featuring 1,573 feet of elevation gain. There is a maximum grade of 10.2% although

the climbs average closer to 6%. There are many winding descents.

All categories are offered for Men and Women. Medals will be awarded to top 3 finishers in each category.

Please note if your race is 1 or 2 laps prior to registering.

1 Lap Races include:

Juniors 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18

Merckx Open (no 1, 2, or 3 annual licenses)

Senior Category 5

Masters 65+

2 Lap Races include:

Senior Category 1/2/3, 3, 4

Masters 35+, 45+, and 55+

Race runs rain or shine. In the event of heavy rain all races will be 1 lap.

The first racer will start at 9:00am. Riders will be sent off by category. Exact start times are dependent on the number of registrants, and will be announced by 2pm on Friday, June 23rd.

Official results will be provided digitally once available from officials.

$35 by May 31, $40 as of June 1

$20 for Juniors.

Annual or One-Day USA Cycling License is required. If a One-Day license is required, the $15 fee will be charged at registration. One day licensees may enter Cat 5 or their appropriate age graded category.

There is no day of registration.

If you would like to warm up, please bring a trainer. There will be no warming up on Rayville Road or on the race course.

Roads will be open to traffic during the race. Obey all traffic regulations; yellow line rule is in effect and strictly enforced. Littering on the course is prohibited; as we are on the watershed violators will face a race relegation.

All USAC rules apply.

Riders must wear helmets at all times.

Juniors 11-14 may not use aero TT bikes.

    PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE 6 HOURS AT WOODSTOCK! Joe's Bike Shop Racing Team is committed to making bike racing fun. We use this event to raise money for the Friends of Patapsco Valley State

    Park and the Maryland SPCA as well as to offer an opportunity for young racers to compete on some sweet singletrack alongside their friends, family and fast regional riders. We hope you'll join us for some laps where maximum s'miles are encouraged!

    We have incorporated several changes to follow pandemic safety guidelines. Participants are expected to abide by State of Maryland and Baltimore County COVID guidelines.

    Located in the north section of Patapsco Valley State Park, the trails are well maintained by MORE (Mid-Altantic Off-Road Enthusiasts) and the Friends of Patapsco Valley State Park. Expect some rock gardens, log-overs and jumps.

    The course is approximately 7.6 miles with nearly 800 feet of elevation per lap:

    Here are few important details:

    You must sign the race waiver online in order to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS!

    You will be given your race number and t-shirt as you drive into the race venue.

    Some parking will border the pit area. You will be directed to your parking spot as you arrive.

    You can set up personal canopies by your vehicle. TENT STAKES MUST BE 6 INCHES OR LESS!

    We will use a 10 AM mass start again this year! There will be a racer meeting at 9:40 AM after which you'll make your way up the entrance road for a long and hilly dirt road prologue to space everyone out before you hit the singletrack.

    Each racer / team will complete as many laps as possible in 6+ hours. Team members race one at a time, relay style.

    You must cross the timing line at 3:59:59 PM or earlier to start a final lap. You will have 10 minutes to ride through the pit area and transition for a final lap. The course will be closed at 4:10 PM and no one will be allowed to start a final lap after that time.

    Racers are expected to self-support for the duration of the race, there will be no aid station or hydration / nutrition provided.

    No smoking or fires on the premises.

    The trails are open to other users such as hikers, runners, cyclists, and horse riders. While we communicate in advance about the race, you may encounter others on the course. Please be courteous and pass other trail users carefully. They have equal rights to enjoy the trails.

    Registration Information: online registration closes at 5 PM on Wednesday June 10th. There will be no on-site race day registration. The entry fee will increase to $85/$170 on May 24th. Registration gender must match your legal identification. Number of participants is capped at 250.

    Prizes: Prizes will be awarded based on the number of racers per category. Anticipated award amounts, which may be adjusted based on race expenses, are as follows:

    $60 1st / $30 2nd / $15 3rd for Solo Racers, 6 to 10 registered

    $80 1st / $40 2nd / $20 3rd for Solo Racers, 11 or more registered

    $120 1st / $60 2nd / $30 3rd for Teams, 6 to 10 registered

    $160 1st / $80 2nd / $40 3rd for Teams, 11 or more registered

    No prizes will be awarded for categories with less than 5 registered racers or for Youth and Family Teams.

    Weather Policy: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources generously allows us to race on these wonderful trails. With their permission, the race will proceed if there is light rain. If there is heavy rain preceding the start or forecast for race day, the race will be delayed until Sunday June 14th.

    Cancellation Policy: If we are not able to host the race due to regulatory or weather conditions, your registration fee will be refunded less BikeReg fees and prorated expenses we cannot recover.

    Directions: Start, finish, pit area, and parking are located on the old Hernwood Road Landfill. Access is at the end of 10999 Furman Lane, Woodstock, MD 21163. When entering the gates immediately turn left and follow signs for the bike race. You may not drive onto the landfill prior to race day though you will be able to preride the full race loop from other access points.     We are so excited for your child to participate in NICA Discovery!

    All NICA Discovery adult leaders are background checked and hold a coaching license from NICA. There will always be at least 2

    leaders who have current first aid training.

    New Friends is the introductory level and is aimed at children who are new to biking but have some limited experience with neighborhood or urban riding. These are children who can already balance and pedal a bike, but may have never ventured “off road.” Games and activities work on learning to better ride and operate a bike preparation for later buildable skills, and increasing stamina.

    Participants must be able to ride a bike without training wheels before joining a program and must be in 7-11 years old by program start date.

    Required Documentation

    ONLINE:

    • Registration for NICA Discovery is through the platform BikeReg. Go to bikereg.com and search “NICA Discovery” to find your location.

    IN PERSON:

    • Parents must print, review this CODE OF CONDUCT with their child, sign and bring it to the first session for their child to participate.

    • Every rider is also required to have a waiver and medical release form signed on file with NICA. A link to the waiver may be found HERE. Parents are asked to show confirmation that the online waiver has been signed before their child participates.

    Required Equipment

    • Helmet - Less than 5 years old that fits your child’s head well without moving around while they ride.

    • Footwear - Closed-toe (non-Croc like) shoes that fastened by laces, straps or buckles

    • Bike - Bike with knobby tires, gears, and two hand brakes. Bike tires should be no smaller than 20 inches.

    • Bike repair items - A replacement tube that fits your child’s tire. (dropped off at day one check in and returned at close of program if they are un-used.

    • Snug fitting small backpack - Kids need to be able to carry water and snacks with them at all times.

    • Snacks/Hydration - Kids should always bring a snack and hydration with them to Discovery.

    • Examples could include a granola bar, fruit snacks, or something that can easily be stored in a pocket or pack.

    • Hydration should consist of non caffeinated sports drinks or just good ole water!

    Recommended Equipment

    • Gloves - full-finger gloves to protect hands from abrasions in the case of a fall

    • Eye protection - generic sports glasses to protect from dust and debris (and bugs) kicked up while riding

    • Windbreaker / light rain jacket - weather conditions change throughout the season, your child should be prepared to ride in the conditions that are present on the day. Sessions will be altered or canceled if the weather conditions are unsafe.

    • Athletic /Cycling shorts - Loose fitting athletic shorts or pants. Cycling specific shorts are not required but some kids may be more comfortable.

    What to Expect

    Each lesson is broken down into 3 parts;

    • Opener activities and objective/expectation setting

    • Skills activities and Games

    • Wrap up and Reflection

    There will be a break mid-lesson for snacking/hydrating and general check in.

    Each session builds on skills learned in the previous lesson. To get the MOST out of NICA Discovery make sure your child can attend every lesson!

    For New Friends, the lessons consist of riding and playing in a park-like setting and are not trail dependent. Students will ride within that open space, staying close to restroom facilities and support.

    Kids should come ready to learn, play, ride and explore!

    How to determine if the bike is the correct size

    Standover:

    While straddling the bike with feet flat on the ground, the rider should have about 2 inches of clearance between the top tube and their inseam.

    Mini Pedals, in partnership with Friends of Patapsco Valley State Park, exists to encourage, challenge, and educate children to be comfortable and confident on their mountain bike. Friendships are

    forged on the trail, challenges are overcome on the trail, and confidence is built on the trail. Being able to overcome the challenges that they face on the bike, persist, and continue riding, are directly related to skills they need in life.

    This week of camp will establish a solid foundation of fundamental skills. We will assess each child’s individual ability and skill level to determine how we progress them and their riding. Children will be taught in a group of 8-12 students per instructor, ensuring proper attention to each rider.

    Things your child needs:

    • Bike - A working trail worthy bike. Highly recommended to run your bike by your local bike shop for a tune up prior to the clinic. No training wheels. No kickstands.

    • A helmet

    • Flat pedals

    • Closed toe shoes - Five ten shoes or skate style shoe (Vans) are recommended over a trail shoe, but not mandatory

    • Bike gloves highly recommended

    • Hydration pack is recommended, but water bottle is sufficient (water coolers to refill water will be provided)

    • Sunscreen

    • Bug spray

    • Medication - ie. Epi Pen if needed for allergies. Albuterol if needed for asthma. If needed, they must be carried by the camper at all times

    • Camp is rain or shine unless severe weather event

    **Camp will be held at the Pickall area of Patapsco...detailed instructions will be sent prior to camp!

    CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellation 30+ days prior to the event will receive a full refund. Cancellation less than 30 days prior to the event will receive a refund if the spot can be filled before camp begins. Cancellation within 24 hours of camp will forfeit their camp payment even if the spot is filled.
