    Explanation of Races

    • Scratch - Race runs the determined number of laps; top 5 taken at the finish

    • Points Race - Sprints every 6 laps; 5, 3, 2, and 1 point awarded for top 4 in each sprint. Points are doubled for the finish (10, 6, 4, & 2). Riders gaining laps on the designated field will earn 20 pts; riders losing laps on the designated field will lose 20 pts. Ties in points are broken by finish of last sprint.

    • Tempo - Every lap the first two riders score 2 and 1 points respectively: The final lap scores 3, 2, and 1 point.

    • Elimination – The last rider across the line at designated intervals is eliminated. Eliminations typically occur every one of two laps, as announced. The final two riders will sprint for the win on the last lap. Eliminated riders must exit the track safely when directed.

Omnium-style track meet. Track bikes only. Categories will be combined or split at promoters’ discretion based on attendance. Promoter reserves the right to cancel races that do not meet the minimum field limit listed above or merge fields to achieve minimum field sizes. Omnium leaders will be invited to participate in the Feature.

Rider sign-in opens 1 hour before racing begins and closes 15 minutes before racing begins.

Categories and Numbers: There are three fields for the series: A, B, and C. You will indicate your field of choice by answering a custom question during registration.

The A field is intended primarily for riders in Category 3 or above. Category 5 racers should not register for the A field except with prior permission from the race promoter (send email to [email protected]), or inquire at the gate during registration. The B field is recommended for experienced riders with considerable strength. The C field is recommended for all other riders, including new and slower riders. If you register for a field and decide you want to make a change before the race, please let us know at the gate.

Junior Membership: Available to persons 17 years of age or younger. A parent or guardian will need to be in attendance to sign the waivers for the race and entry into the NHMS facility. If you are unable to accompany the minor, please make prior arrangements with the race director to ensure that all necessary forms are completed in advance.

NHMS Gate Entry Fee: The series pass does not include the NHMS gate entry. The gate entry fee is $10 per adult racer, or $5 for juniors and spectators. The gate fee is paid directly to NHMS at gate, and helps cover costs of ambulance, personnel and other direct costs associated with hosting the race at their venue. Please Note: Failure to pay the gate fee will result in a permanent ban from participating in the NHMS series.

Weather Cancellations: We try hard to avoid cancelling races due to weather, but sometimes mother nature happens. We will send out cancellation notices by email to all Bikereg registrants.

New Racers: New racers are always welcome. If you are a new racer and/or it is your first time at the series, please feel free to contact the race director with any questions or ask for assistance during registration. The race series is a welcoming environment, and there are many experienced racers at the series who are happy to assist new racers.

The Courses: The races are run on four courses: (1) the road; (2) the inner road; (3) frontier; and (4) the magic mile. We will attempt to notify racers which course will be used in advance, but do not have control over last minute changes. For information about the various courses, please see the photographs and information at the bottom of this registration page.

Season Passes: Season passes are available on bikereg.com: https://www.bikereg.com/nhms

Licenses and Rules: A USA Cycling license is NOT required for a series pass and/or day-of registration. All USA Cycling Rules for helmets apply. No Aero Bars. Please visit the NHMS page on our website for rules about the series.

This is a track riding and racing clinic for riders who are not familiar with riding a fixed gear or riding on a velodrome. Track racing has some peculiarities that make it a little different from road riding or racing. This clinic will give you the knowledge and experience necessary to begin track riding at the Northeast Velodrome.

The course consists of 3 sets of skills:

    • Riding a fixed gear
    • Getting started and stopping on a fixed gear bike

    • Spinning and controlling your speed with your pedals instead of brakes

    • Practice riding close to another rider

    • Learning to hold a line while continuing to pedal through

    • Track riding conventions and etiquette
    • Learning how it feels to use the banking and the turns

    • The terminology of the track lanes

    • How to move and communicate with the other riders on the track

    • Paceline and racing skills
    • Learning how to use the turns and the banking of the track to form and hold a pace line

    • Taking a turn on the front and then moving out and up and back to take a place at the back

    • Learning race rules for various track events

At the end you will have the knowledge and some experience of track riding. You will understand how riding a fixed gear on a track differs from road or mountain riding with a freewheel and brakes.

The course fee includes rental of a track bike if needed. If you are renting you need to bring pedals and shoes. A helmet is required. Please indicate your frame size, and if you know it your saddle height, measured from the center of the crank axle to the top of the saddle. This is not required but will aid in preparing the bike and speeding the sizing process.

Price: $30 - Field limit of 8. Rental is included. Successful completion of this course certifies you to ride any other events at the Northeast Velodrome.
